Revival in N.C. Exceeds All Expectations; Upwards of 4,000 People Per Night Still Coming to Get Baptized
AP/TN (Sep 13, 2006)
The AP reports that since the start of the Cane River Tent Revival on July 31, about six weeks ago, thousands of people have been coming to get baptized in the river. Originally, leaders thought the meetings would end in two weeks, but people -- sometimes 4,000 a night, according to the report -- kept coming.
"I've had opportunities in the past to be involved in area-wide meetings," said the Rev. Ralph Sexton Jr. "But this exceeds all expectations. This is my first cornfield reviva,l and I hope it won't be my last."
One attendant, Dee-Dee Carver, said she has been dealing with a rebellious son and her own shortcomings, and came to strengthen her Christian faith. "I've been coming every night I can," she said. "I come here and feel that sweet, sweet Spirit. I think it's God's way of saying, 'I still love you.'"
