“Princes persecute me without cause,
but my heart stands in awe of your words.
I rejoice at your word
like one who finds great spoil.
I hate and abhor falsehood,
but I love your law.
Seven times a day I praise you
for your righteous rules.
Great peace have those who love your law;
nothing can make them stumble.
I hope for your salvation, O Lord,
and I do your commandments.
My soul keeps your testimonies;
I love them exceedingly.
I keep your precepts and testimonies,
for all my ways are before you.” (Psalms 119:161-168 ESV)
Lately, perhaps for the past month or so, I have been noticing that supposed very large revivals and gatherings of Jesus worshippers have been popping up in my news feed, either on Facebook and/or on YouTube, where they are showing large crowds of people singing and raising their arms in the air and moving back and forth to the music, most of which are shown at a distance and it is not clear who the people are or where they are from or what is really happening at their gatherings. But “Jesus” seems to be the focus.
But the big question is, “What Jesus?” The Jesus of the Scriptures? Or a false Jesus created in the minds of human beings? What is the true purpose of these gatherings? What is the true end result? And when they say that hundreds or thousands of people “received Christ,” what do they mean by that, in truth? And I know that I have talked about this somewhat already, but these gatherings seem to be increasing in frequency and in the number of people supposedly “worshipping” Jesus and “receiving” him as Lord.
But, considering where we are in the world right now, spiritually speaking, well, especially here in America, but I suspect not just in America, it does not fit that hundreds and thousands of people would be gathering together for genuine biblical worship of the true biblical Jesus according to the true biblical teachings on worship and faith and what it means to “receive Jesus Christ as Lord.” At least here in America, “another Jesus” and a “different gospel” are what are largely being taught and widely accepted.
From what I have been able to ascertain so far, and that is not much, what is being taught is the “another Jesus” and a “different gospel” other than the one of the Scriptures, which fits with what is largely being taught in American “churches,” too. And worship is being reduced to song services and the stirring of people’s emotions via the music and the swaying to the music, almost like in a trance of sorts. And “receiving Christ” is being reduced to mere verbal professions of faith in Jesus Christ without true heart change.
So, who is behind all of this, and what is their objective? Is this ultimately for the persecution of those whose faith in the Lord is biblical and genuine, as is their worship of the Lord? Are we being fed lies about these gatherings in any respect? For not much information about them is being communicated at this point. And the ones I have been able to investigate, so far, have definitely been teaching the altered Jesus and the diluted gospel message. And so, perhaps hundreds and thousands of people are believing the lie.
At this point I am mostly just making observations and taking notes with regard to what I am seeing take place, but I sense that what I will continue to discover is that the true biblical Jesus and the true gospel message are not what are being presented. But why just show very large crowds of people, mostly from a distance, and state that they are worshipping Jesus or that they are receiving Christ, but without really showing us anything beyond that? Mostly what I am seeing are people singing and dancing.
So, if you are noticing the same thing as I am, please pay attention closely to what is really happening in these gatherings. Are they just singing and dancing and jumping up and down and swaying to the music? Are they just shouting the name of Jesus? And if people are “receiving Christ,” what explanation is being given as to what that means? What gospel message is being presented? Are they teaching that genuine faith in the true Jesus means self-denial, dying to sin daily, and walking in obedience to him?
I think I have more questions than I do answers with this writing with regard to what I am presently seeing and not seeing. So my encouragement to all who are reading this is that we must all test the spirits to see if they be of God. For just because a crowd of people jump up and down and sing praises to Jesus (to God), it is not necessarily an indication that true worship of God is taking place and that genuine salvations are taking place. So abhor falsehood and embrace the truth of God’s holy word. And obey God.

Just a Closer Walk with Thee
Hymn lyrics by Anonymous/Unknown
Music by American Melody
“For indeed He was crucified because of weakness, yet He lives because of the power of God. For we also are weak in Him, yet we will live with Him because of the power of God directed toward you” (2 Co. 13:4 NASB).
I am weak, but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I’ll be satisfied as long
As I walk, let me walk close to Thee.
Through this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
When my feeble life is o’er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o’er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, is my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
