I just moved into a new apartment last weekend. The reason I moved was because my old apartment was
cold and I live in Canada where we have very cold winters. I had to use a space heater in my old apartment
to keep it warm. Now I just spent a lot of time and money moving and we all know what a chore moving is. This is my
third move in four years and I`m exhausted.
I had two apartments to choose from, one large apartment on the edge of town which had transit problems, as I take the bus. Another in town but a much smaller apartment. I asked lots of people to pray and asked Talk Jesus to pray for me to make the right decision. I choose the smaller apartment, which I could handle, except for one thing, it has heating problems, just like my old apartment. To say that I am disheartened and incredibly depressed would be an understatement. As I write this I am physically cold, my feet are freezing. I`ve told my super and he had the plumber
come in but it solved nothing.
I can`t believe I`m going through this again, to be honest it`s a shock to my system, I`m really in disbelief!! Now I think I made the wrong decision and should`ve taken the other apartment, I am so depressed right now. I really don`t know what to do, the thought of going through another long battle with my landlord to get the heat fixed is so discouraging. Nobody I talk to really cares about this problem, why should they it`s not their`s!! Christians tell me God is trying to teach me something. Well I have no idea what it is and it is causing me major depression.I asked people to pray, I prayed and this disaster is what happens.
I can`t mention it to anyone because it is just so embarrassing. I moved, paid hundreds of dollars and am paying about 100.00 more a month in rent and I have the exact same problem, in a much smaller apartment.
To add to my stress my part-time job(I get close to full time hours but I`m also on call) is very chaotic. I hurt my back moving and since I have a physical job my back kills me all day at work. I`m gonna go to physio but I can`t take any time off cause I have to pay my bills. I have to worry about getting shifts, every week, for the last seven years and that wears on a person.
I also applied for a full time job at work, that I`ll probably hate but I need it cause it pays more.
All these stresses are leading to major depression, I prayed, others prayed, Talk Jesus prayed and here I am in this very debilitating situation.I just don`t understand God.I am really at the end of my rope. I can`t spend another winter in a freezing apartment.
I`m really beginning to feel God has forgotten me or just doesn`t care, cause having the exact same cold problem is just too much to handle. I`m very tired and worn out and God is nowhere to be found!!

Sorry to hear about your situation. I do know that God does indeed care as He cares about the small things in our lives as well as the bigger things and His word says He will never give us more than we can handle and at times we all think we have too much to handle. Keep on keeping on and pressing into God. Seek Him with all your heart. Proverbs 3.5-6 says: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your paths.

Whatever we go through in life is not wasted and will be used in future to help others. God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Romans 8.28.

God bless.

Does sound like you have alot on your plate. For by his stripes we are healed. I pray your back To Be Healed. Rest if you must and try not to over do it. If you are going for another job and feel you might hate only cause its more money. You will not be so happy. Stand up for yourself and Tell that Landlord to please get your heat fixed. One thing at a time. Reset your focus point . to many thoughts on the mind at one time will only drain you quicker. waste of good energy. That is what the enemy wants. Keep your focus and eyes on jesus. Do take time to rest. Take time to enjoy something you like to do. Again One Task at a Time. Keep Praying. my voice goes up to you in Prayer. Love & prayers Purpose

Not sure what God is trying to teach you in this. I would say to try your best to endure and not challenge the Goodness of God. He does love you and has purpose for you. Buy some extra blankets and warm clothes, maybe even some hotpockets (those chemical packs that when squished produce heat). Maybe He wants you to learn more endurance which is a good thing, not sure though. Glad to pray for you, I know you need it.

Good morning DPG;

Canada is big country with a variety of winter climates ranging from warm and wet to cold and dry. My sympathies for your plight regarding your back and having to work with it. It's not fun as I've been there. I have no problem with you complaining that God doesn't care, but you place us into the position of defending Him. On another note, do you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, enough clothing, and some money in your pocket? If so, I'm sure that you're grateful for those things. Moving can be stressful, but it's not the end of the world. It's not like you're starving in a prison where even the rats look good to eat. Working part time (many companies are trying to go this route) can add additional stress when the bills are due. It seems the Good Lord has met your needs to date. I work at a job where Management expects me to sit by a phone, yet still wants me to have a life so I can sing praises about my employer scheduling me one or two days a month when there is little work.

Here's a story which I still chuckle at years after hearing it. It involved moving an elderly lady from the Toronto area to Vancouver. The truck was parked facing uphill. The last item of furniture loaded into the trailer was a grand piano which is neither small nor light. The doors were closed and the driver pulled away. Immediately, there was a crash heard at the back. The driver walked around to the back. The doors are sprung open, and the piano is in pieces on the street. The piano was reloaded, the doors once again closed and checked for security. The driver pulled away again with four days to think about how he was going to explain the state of the piano. It would be his luck for it to be a family heirloom. Upon arrival in Vancouver, the driver mentioned to the lady that this apartment is much smaller and he asked where she was going to put the piano. She replied that she didn't know. Then she mentioned that she should sell it as she didn't play it much, and asked him what it might be worth. The driver replied he didn't know, but asked her if $400 would be enough. She said that would be fine. He said he was going for lunch and would be back in an hour or so. He found a place to offload the piano, withdrew the money from his bank account, and returned to offload the remaining furniture and pay for the piano. The story came from the driver.

Is there a Tenancy Board in your area? The Law states that you must pay your rent, but it may give you leverage to tackle justifiable issues. If you feel the Landlord is making little effort to repair the problem, you can pay your rent to the Tenancy Board who will hold the rent until the issue is addressed. Give the apartment a year and if you're still unhappy, you can move again. I've had many scenarios of woulda/coulda/shoulda, but all you can really do is make the best of it and thank the Good Lord for what you having working for you. Phil 4:8.

Cheers, John

hi @dpg3

Sorry to hear of your troubles. But, let me remind you. There are no circumstances that GOD cannot fix. Perhaps this is a great opportunity to exercise your faith in Him. Faith doesn't grow without trials and some pain along the way. Don't fall in a self pity party, it won't do you good. Keep focused on GOD, not your circumstances. All matters and obstacles are miniscule compared to Him, infinitely so. Remember the story of David? He was the brave one who was a scrawny little guy compared to the giants. But, his focus was on God's strength to slay Goliath, not his own.

Check this out for a little encouragement

.....the joy of the LORD is your strength.
Nehemiah 8:10

What shall I render unto the LORD for all His benefits toward me?
Psalm116:12

I`m very tired and worn out and God is nowhere to be found!!

Greetings @dpg3

The Lord has not deserted you, He loves you dearly and wants you to know His perfect peace.
Whilst I am not belittling your troubling circumstances in any way......lets look at turning this around

You live in a country where you are free to worship....Praise the Lord
You have an apartment.....Praise the Lord!
You have a job.....Praise the Lord
You are physically able......Praise the Lord
You have the finances to pay rent......Praise the Lord
You have access to a public transport system......Praise the Lord
You have access to the internet and online fellowship.......Praise the Lord

If you take a moment to see what you do have and to count all those beautiful blessings you will begin to see how wonderfully the Lord's hand works in your life.
And when the joy of the Lord becomes your strength then you can look at your problems in a different way.....knowing that He is with you and that you can praise Him no matter what.

Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of His understanding.
He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:
But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Isaiah 40:28-31

Thanks everyone for your replies, please pray that my landlord will find a solution to this heating problem!!

I'd like to thank everyone who replied, it means so much to me, that my brothers and sisters in Christ really do care.
I had a very emotional month, moving really takes a toll on ones emotions. Plus my chaotic work situation.
It was heart breaking to me, the situation at the new apartment. But it's amazing that a good sleep can
refresh the Spirit and perspective.
I know God has His hand on me and I have to listen to His voice. But we have an Enemy, so please continue to pray that
God's will is done in my life and all our lives!!!!
Again thanks again for your very kind replies and your prayers that I can feel in my Spirit!!!! :):):):):)

PS: I'm listening to The Violet Burning-Strength, which is one of my favorite albums and strengthens my Spirit!!!

Well my friend, you certainly are in a place where you are completely dependent on our Lord. Praise the Lord! The greatest gift that you can give back to Jesus is TRUST. He will come thru for you soon.

Here in the USA we have a system something like what Shutterbug posted. You tell your landlord that he won't receive a cent for rent until the heating is fixed. Put your rent money aside in a savings account and when it's fixed, he gets his money. A lot of landlords are very cheap. They don't like to spend money, just collect it.

I totally agree with you but it's really hard, when the only reason I moved, was because of lack of heat and I have the same problem in my new apartment. Couldn't God just give me this one, I'm exhausted and I really don't NEED this right now!!!!! My emotions on this are crazy, I'm embarrassed to say anything to my friends and family, having the exact same problem again. I'm sorry but in this instance God just seems cruel. I'm going to have to have the same battle, I just fought with my old landlords, all over again. I just don't understand God, on this one!!

Good morning dpg3. I didn't reply to you right a away because I wanted to seek the Lord about your situation. I have counseled a few folk who have had similar situations as you. I have found that you and I live in a completely different world than the early Church of Jesus Christ. Things were incredibly simple in those days and men were more honest in those days, especially among Christians.

Having said that, they could rely on the Lord to "have their back" so to speak, not today! In your situation, landlords are very corrupt, as a rule. They will hide many flaws in an empty rent, just to make money on it. Back then, it was "word of mouth" a mans word was his bond. Today, it has to be put on paper and signed. Obviously I don't know what your conversation was between you and your new landlord. I don't know if the issue of heat was brought up. If it wasn't, that's your fault. If it was, then you are dealing with a corrupt landlord and you have another battle on your hands.

Where was God in this? Sometimes we want something so bad that we miss God's still soft voice of warning, and enter an agreement that's not good for us. I know, I've been there more than once. I would suggest that you should count yourself in that category with me. God was there, just that you and I missed His warning because our mind was to busy to take time to consider His will.

We serve a forgiving God. He will forgive a rash move without His approval. Like me, if your tell Him you're sorry for the move and will he help you solve this heat problem now, you'll find that our loving God will fight for you. Somehow, He will open up a different living situation in another apartment or He will build a fire under your landlord's rear end and get the heat fixed.

What ever the situation is, you have to give this a good fight, not sink back and cry over your loss. You're are Christian warrior with Jesus as your Commander in Chief. You go to war with your landlord and Jesus will "have your back". You will have to make demands and threaten to leave the apartment. Hold your rent until he comes thru, fight, fight, fight! Believe me, it'll be worth it in the end.

"you and I missed His warning because our mind was to busy to take time to consider His will."
I know that is exactly what happened in this instance, a Christian lady at work confirmed what you have said. My mind was going a million miles an hour before I decided to take this apartment. I listened to a Charles Stanley sermon today on TV and it was about the will of God in our life and how we can't get ahead of God. That we have to be patient and listen to God, not one of my best attributes. His sermon really spoke to me about how much God loves me and wants the best for me but on His time not mine.
Thank you so much for your wise counsel and please keep me prayer, as I do battle with my landlord to get the heat fixed!!!!!!
