What are we here for?
I'm talking about the here and now, not Heaven, afterlife or eternity. Here and now; why am I here? What does God want of me?
I racked my brains and I could only find 4 purposes and so, in no particular order: -
1.) To live a holy and blameless life, free from temptation and sin. Jesus came to Earth and showed us how it's done. From what I read in the Gospels, Jesus knew the Old Testament from cover to cover and He spent hour upon hour in prayer with God. I need to follow His example.
2.) To witness to the whole world or at least that little part of it that I inhabit, the gospel. One of the same purposes as Jesus's when He quoted Isaiah, Luke 4:14-30.
3.) To support each other and to love one another as part of the world wide church, one day to be Christ's bride.
4.) To praise, love and adore our precious, amazing God.
TalkJesus is a really useful tool to help towards those objectives but is it living up to its purpose? With regards to the above:-
1.) I do like the posts that focus on a Bible passage. Let's encourage the posters with likes and comments. Try keeping the comments positive and expressed with love, especially if you're disagreeing with what's said. I see too many combative 'superior' comments that are lacking love and respect. My favourite posts are the practical ones about the here and now and my walk withJesus. I tend to glaze over the theological debates and arguments about prophecy, many of which are conducted in a spirit of intolerance and superiority, about as edifying as watching a pie eating contest.
The anti-gay and anti-trans posts used to make me cringe, now they annoy me. They are fueled with hate and intolerance which is a warning light that they are Satan induced. Posts of this nature are a turn off to both straight and gay and give Christians and our Lord a bad reputation.
2.) TalkJesus is not only viewed by members but also by many more casual guests. I wonder how these anonymous guests happened on the site? They must have been searching for something, probably by Google. What were they looking for and what do they see? What impressions do they take away? Do they see a brotherhood of disciples bonded in love, building and supporting each other? I'm reminded of the verse John 13:35. Do they know that we are His disciples? Our love for each other is an integral part of our witness.
3.) Have you noticed that the Christian Counselling and Prayer Request sections in TJ are falling into disuse? T'was a time when people frequently posted problems and advice requests in these sections. Is their waning use not an indicator that visitors' respect of the membership has dwindled?
4.) Can you think of anything nice to say to or about our God? Please guys, more posts of this nature.
I've been on this site for just over 3 years and in that short space of time I've noticed that the number of members' visits within the last 24 hours has dwindled from 40 something to low thirties? I don't know the visitor numbers but I guess they're not encouraging.
I love this forum so please guys let's all of us pray for it and for heaven's sake, do something.
May God bless you all richly.
