Here and there on the forums we read talk about helping others if we know they need help.

While the world holds on to that to some degree, is the Church under any obligation to always be willing to help someone when she sees them in need?

For example, have you heard of man, Rocky Myers?
He is on death row in the USA.
It is said that he is innocent and may have mental impairment. However, he is in his third decade of incarceration.
Perhaps you could search the internet if you would like to know more about him?

The point is, though, if we see a man who needs help, like Rocky (petitioning the authorities) should we do nothing or should we take a few minutes to help?
Or, should we do something more... for example, if it was someone we love being family, how far would we go?

Or do you think (for your comfort? ) that it's not my business and I shouldn't interfere with the decision of the authorities?

I encourage you to find out more about Rocky Myers and then share your thought.

I remember a book by Richard Wurmbrand, titled, If That Were Christ, Would You Give Him Your Blanket?

What should we do and what can we do?

Should we only help those we know are believers? Even then, how much so?

If you see something that is in your power to do, you should do it if lead too.
Knowing what to do is important.
I could write a letter to my Congressman,which probably wouldn’t be read,I could send money for legal fees. Praying is the most I personally could do,aside from monetary funds.
I though,that being lead of the Spirit is the most important part.
There are some I would love to help in various ways,that could interfere with Gods dealings in their lives.
I know a man that won’t work,expecting a baby. I won’t let them starve,but I shouldn’t give incentive to not work and support family. I just don’t know brother

I don’t want to take away from the OP, I just want to point out,that the Lord will allow trouble in a persons life to hopefully cause the person to cry out to him.
As we read Job,even though it starts out saying he was a righteous man,he was actually self righteous,as becomes evident in last chapter.
He states he has heard of God,but now knows him.
God will do whatever he has to do in order to bring us to repentance.

Greetings,

Thought I'd 'bump' this thread and try to get more participation.

Again, I encourage all to look into Mr Myers' situation and maybe find some way that might help him, Lord be willing.

Bless you all ....><>

Jhn 5:19 Then Jesus answered and said to them, "Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.
Jhn 5:20 For the Father loves the Son, and shows Him all things that He Himself does; and He will show Him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

If the Son of God could only do what he saw his father doing how much more can the sons of God do if they can not see what the father is doing?

If we are not seeing what God is doing maybe because we are not loving the father and the Son as we should.

Jhn 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."

I never heard of dude.. I don't know him or who he hung with what he was j wasn't involved with how he treated those he did know n didn't know.. I have no way of meeting him face to face n spend time with him n his family.. personally I wouldn't involve myself in no way for them reasons.. I can not judge righteously just by what people say either way.. but that me...

As for helping whom we don't know..

If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?

Even the sea monsters draw out the breast, They give suck to their young ones: The daughter of my people is become cruel, Like the ostriches in the wilderness.

Seems most peep only help their flesh n blood.. something I never understood personally.. I don't understand how peep can walk past the hungry whilest dressed in their expensive suites goin where Eva it is they goin.. don't understand how one can't lend a hand and just look n walk by a disabled person struggling carrying bags.. can't understand how one can watch their elderly neighbor struggle to cut the grass instead of helping them out.. i don't understand the coldness of people..

Seems humanity is becoming a very rare thing.. it's seems to be easy for many people to stand on the side lines and look down on n judge those they should be reaching out to sadly..

not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free,and to break every yoke?
Is it not to share your bread with the hungry
and bring the homeless poor into your house;
when you see the naked, to cover him, and not to hide yourself from your own flesh?

Learn to do good; Seek justice, Rebuke the oppressor;
Defend the fatherless,Plead for the widow.

Defend the poor and fatherless;
Do justice to the afflicted and needy.

Thus says the Lord of hosts:
‘Execute true justice,
Show mercy and compassion
Everyone to his brother.
Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless,
The alien or the poor.
Let none of you plan evil in his heart
Against his brother.’

Abba tells us time n time again what He desires For His children to do..
