I am not too old to remember how old I am. the one good thing about that is that I've repeated several of my 55th birthday at least 3 times now and I feel just as old. or as young, every time.

The one thing that was the most disturbing to me was when the infamous letter from AARP showed up at my doorstep to reveal the ominous fact of approaching 50 was well on it's way. My sister-in-law handed to me and nearly spit out a mouthful of coffee, when she saw the shocked look on my face as I read my name, address and everything on a letter from a corporation devoted to old people. I'm glad the letter wasn't handed to me by the mailman. I'd have probably laid hi out with a hay maker.

I'M NOT OLD!!!!! Oh my God, I thought. It was like being handed the death sentence for breathing.

Man, what a shock to reality. I'd just been young and the day before. now, I was ready for the glue factory.

I was wondering if anyone else had been shocked by the big five oh. When did you realize that you'd reached the plateau of being old and the world was about to overtake you and pass you by.

Oh yeah! 50 was a page turner, at the time. I am almost 55 now, and it's not so hard.

My mom has been teaching me, by example, how to age gracefully. She admits her weaknesses...her mind is not working like it used to, she needs an arm to walk down the path, she forgot to eat. Thankfully, she is living with my brother now! He and his wife make sure she gets her meals and naps!

I look at her and think it's not so bad...her faith and love for God still looks good even though other things are failing.

And I avoid looking in the mirror.

When you consider that we are all going to live forever, age is just a number! Praise the Lord! I'm 58 years young!
