Is it a sin to download music?

I have downloaded so much music, movies, tv shows, and video games. And have also copied the movies (just to watch) and I feel very guilty for doing this stuff. Since I have accepted Jesus Christ I have done my best to not do these things anymore. I got rid of most of the music and was wondering if I should throw out the DVDs because I feel like I am not forgiven. And I know what I did was wrong. What can I do to feel forgiven?

Thank you and God Bless.

What can you do to "feel" forgiven? I imagine by your post that the downloads were via some peer-to-peer network. I can only say what I would do in your situation and that is to remove the material even the free television shows. You must be feeling convicted or you would not have posted the question. My two cents...

From the Word:

Mar 12:17 And Jesus said unto them, Render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. And they marvelled greatly at him. KJV

Luk 20:25 And he said unto them, Then render unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and unto God the things that are God's. KJV

You can always see if your local library has the music, movies, and TV shows for future use...

Do the producers and performers involved receive payment in connection with your possession and use of the CDs/DVDs? You say you've gotten rid of most of the CDs/DVDs. That means that you are still holding onto and illegally using the remainder.

"But when he (John the Baptist) saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to where he was baptizing, he said to them: 'You brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.'" (Mt 3:7-8)

You can't repent of most of the times you commit a sin. Get rid of all that stuff and never do it again!

Thank you for the responses. I haven't been using the stuff lately. But I will definitely get rid of all of the stuff. And never do it again.

God Bless.

I used to download music and software back in the day. It wasn't up until about 2-3 years ago that the Holy Spirit began to convict me of this. Slowly but surely I stopped downloading illegally, for good. I feel much better now paying for it, legally and ethically. In GOD's eyes, I'm now innocent of this kind of guilt. One less bad habit (or bondage for some) that was broken by the power of the Holy Spirit and sin already paid for by Jesus!

The way I look at it now, if I want something that is good and not against GOD's will, GOD will provide it and I will thank Him so for it.

I use to do that for Gospel song but never got rid of it because why would I get rid of Godly music, would that be a waste of money of CDs or not knowing what artist that sing that song? I really throw most of worldly music away that I've use to burn, if I find more of them but most of them are gone for good. I hardly don't do it no more if I ask permission if that person says Ok or if it is free.. What you think?

Stylz:

What "person" are you referring to? To legally download music, you have to have the written permission of whoever owns the legal rights to the music.

This is a good topic to tackle as we are living in such a technological world today. I have a similar thing in my past. Years ago when we lived in Toronto I did some work for a guy in trade for a gadget called a "pirate box" It allowed us to receive many cool stations over and above what we were allowed on our regular cable subscription. For a while it was really cool. The spirit began to convict and then the flesh began to fight back. I reasoned it that we were still buying cable just getting a little extra. You know like when you buy a bottle of something and it says 33% more free? I thought along those lines in my justification. Finally the spirit got to me so strong. I came home determined to remove the "box" but to find that the Cable company had changed their coding or something and the extra station were scrambled. At that point it was easy to remove it and throw it in the garbage. Now was that repentance on my part or fortunate co-incidence? Wondering!

It's not repentence when the cable company renders your pirate box useless. You didn't take the action to stop the pirating, therefore, you don't get credit for it.

Thanks for that. I feel like I have repented because I have not done that since nor would I.
