Praise the Lord!

The last couple of months i have been really frustrated spiritually. I been at my current church for 7 years now, and i feel I haven't grown. When is it time to move on without hurting family and friends?

Your time in a place is up when God gives you the word. He may do it through a person here, but how are you to recognize it? You simply need to communicate with God for He is certainly always communicating with you. You may not always be hearing what thus saith the Lord, but then "ask and ye shall receive". Don't expect the answer to be in a package according to your specifications or mine.

David was anointed by Samuel to be the king of Israel but David refused to take hold of what others considered his opportunity. At least twice King Saul was effectively placed into David's hands, but he refused to touch the Lord's anointed. He would not kill King Saul, and he even expressed regret about the advantage that he did take. In God's time, Saul was removed and David was established. Learn to trust God even when nothing seems to be happening as you think it should be happening. Give God the glory! When it is time to be moved (increased?) will God forget?

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:" Ecc 3:1

"I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase." I Cor 3:6

I've been working through this question for myself and my family for some time. We've decided to stay where we are. About 6 months ago, we were not at all happy in church, finding ourselves being leant on quite a bit for support, but not really feeling supported ourselves. In prayer we felt a sense of release from God - that it would be ok for us to move on. Since then we have found - without even visiting any other churches - that we are already in the right place.

I don't want to try to trump your experience with mine, just saying that this might be an area to exercise wisdom and good judgement rather than try to weigh up what's right and wrong.

Here's some ideas that I found helpful to varying degrees.

  • Am I blaming church for a lack I find in myself
  • What difference would a better church situation make?
  • Am I missing a chance to make a difference where I am
  • Could this be an opportunity to do something new
  • Am I backing away from problems that ought to be faced
  • What happens when I pray about the situation

If these are helpful to you, then please use them

Thank you both. I will seriously go to God in prayer before I make any decision on my own.
