"because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the LORD when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard [you]," says the LORD. 2 Kings 22:19 NKJV
Although Josiah feared disaster because of God’s judgment, he took prompt action to repent of his people’s sins and to grieve the ways his people had angered God. The Lord was eager to hear their prayer and relented His anger immediately.
You may have failed in some pretty dramatic and public ways. You may think you’re a phony. You may worry about letting people down with your poor choices. However, you can’t lose God’s love and concern. Even the most stubborn sinners found rich mercy and forgiveness when they changed their ways. Jesus went so far as to suggest that God throws a party for one repentant sinner!
Today is the day to examine your failures, your shame, or your weaknesses and to bring them to God. There is nothing beyond God’s mercy, and if you trust Him with your paths, you can change how you see yourself. The good news is that God has never changed the way He sees you, viewing you as a beloved child He longs to see return home.
Prayer: Lord, I receive Your mercy and forgiveness as I confess my sins today.
