Yes it is 100% true it is not a sin to kill. If anyone has ever read an older bible it says thou shall not murder, not thou shall not kill. To murder is to kill in an unlawful manner. Killing could be anything from stepping on a bug, hunting or killing to defend your life or someone elses. God does not expect us to go through life without defending our selves other wise the verse would say Kill. Also in the bible it says there is a time to kill and a time to let live, my old youth pastor when talking about the ten comandments was unable to defend this he just kept up with, he is right and I am wrong. Well, God rest his soul, not everyone is right all the time and anyone who preached thou shall not kill is wrong. And not only that but the bible also says there is a time to kill, think about that.
