Thus says the LORD: "What injustice have your fathers found in Me, That they have gone far from Me, Have followed idols, And have become idolaters? Jeremiah 2:5
God described how He had done great miracles to bring the Jews' ancestors out of slavery in Egypt, had provided for them in a barren, unforgiving desert, and had done miracles to bring them into the Promised Land. Despite all this, His people turned from Him to worship useless idols. Hence His rhetorical question above.
The truth was, the Israelites had found no legitimate fault with God. "He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong" (Deuteronomy 32.4 NIV).
But many modern people think they have found fault with God. They say, "He allows innocent children to suffer. Christianity is outdated, out of touch with modern liberated worldviews." So they disrespect Him and stray in their hearts. Do you sometimes find yourself doing this?
Trust God. His works are still perfect, even though you can't yet see the end from the beginning. "You are good, and do good (Psalm 119:68 NKJV). Even what may now seem only to be senseless tragedies will be recycled into a meaningful design. Believing this takes great trust in God, but He is worthy of your trust.
Prayer: Father, help me to trust that You are good and that You do good--both in my life and in the world around me. In Jesus' name, I pray.
