IUDs considered abortion?

So I'm having my first baby in August and I've been reading a book called "Real Marriage" by pastor Mark Driscoll; says that an IUD is considered an abortion? From what I've read, an IUD stops a ***** from fertilizing an egg, and it's unlikely that the egg gets fertilized, it is rare but happens and then yes, to me this is an abortion. Does anyone have more information on this? I'd never want to ignore something like this now that I've read about it.

I don't know, would condoms or the pill then be considered an abortion. Prevention is not the same as abortion. The facts I've read is that the IUD does not cause abortion, but prevents the ***** from reaching the egg. (can't post links yet, sorry)

Personally, the preference would be something less evasive if contraception was decided upon between husband and wife. But ultimately that choice should be left between them and the Lord.

Firstly congratulations!

Secondly I would advise a little caution when it comes to following the advice of Mark Driscoll. Ive watched and read a lot of his preaching and in my opinion it involves a lot of bullying, seeking control and psychological abuse.

Thirdly if the IUD prevents conception then I would argue that that is not the same as aborting a fetus.

When it comes to developing pre-born children, my policy is simple, unless it's absolutely necessary for the mother and or child, don't mess with it. I take the development of life very seriously, and I'd prefer not to put any child, born or not, at risk, even if it meant denying me and my future spouse (Should the Lord willing provides me a wife) a little to avoid having a baby we can't care for yet or from having too many children to properly care for.
