Have you read Jim Frey's book or did you see him on Oprah's talk show?

From Jim Robinson
Quote: "James Frey’s memoir, A Million Little Pieces, had been a best-seller several years ago, and then disappeared until Oprah Winfrey highlighted it on her book club. Now there is controversy about its dishonesty. More importantly the book misses the main point of recovery - that it is based on the peace of Christ.” End of Quote

Quote: “Frey’s “solution” for his “problem” wallows in the same emotional existentialism and narcissism embodied in the addiction disease model. In true recovery, we addicts discover the seeming paradox of faith that Jesus taught concerning all humans: To win, we must surrender. To find strength, we must become powerless. To keep the boat from crashing on the rocks, we must give up control. The anger and resentment to which we have desperately been clinging will kill us, unless we give it all away. Lost in the smoke and mirrors of shame and fear, we addicts must discover an elusive Truth indeed.” End of Quote.

Quote: “I couldn’t care less whether or not all of the details of the man’s story were factual, frankly. There was something else about the book that concerned me. Something that made it not only a bad choice for representing healing from addiction, but in fact made the book dangerous.” End of Quote.

“Jim Robinson is a successful songwriter, musician, speaker, author, and recovery counselor. A graduate of Christ Center School of Counseling and Addiction Studies, Robinson is founder of ProdigalSong, a Christian ministry utilizing music, speaking, counseling, and teaching to convey healing for the broken spirit. His autobiography, Prodigal Song: A Memoir, has been lauded by professional writers and publishers alike; the book was given the highest star rating and called "a moving and life-affirming portrayal, spiritually rewarding and reader inspiring" by Midwest Book Review.”

This is EXACTLY what was welling up inside of me and my thoughts when I heard Frey talking about being redeemed without God. How could it be? And if it could be, then not many more will come to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior because they are going to think they can rise above their problems and addictions without Him. I could NOT believe this story, of Frey’s, because WHAT, exactly, were these people “Holding On To”, if it wasn’t Jesus?!?!? To me, they were holding on to something that wasn’t going to be able to help them for long, but would, ultimately, crumble underneath them; like, building their lives on SAND instead of THE ROCK.

The Holy Spirit was talking to me, wihin myself, telling me something wasn't right, but other than knowing Frey was not building on a sure foundation, how much harder was it going to be, now, to share with others how to become, truly, free from their bondages if they were already using Frey's ideas and were being freed that way? (I was upset after watching this and had a million questions for the Lord.)

Then, it all came out – THE TRUTH came out! I knew it had to be just a matter of time! Their was no “holding on” to anything because Frey did not hold on to anything but wind and, now, he is reaping the benefits thereof. As the Lord says, (whether it be today, tomorrow, now, or later…) “For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.” St. Luke 8:17

As Jesus has said,

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock;

“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

“And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

“And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

“For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

St. Matthew 7:24-29

We, Christians, must pray for Frey, though, because there will be a time when he hits rock bottom and He’s going to need caring Christians lifting him up and helping him in His turn around, to Jesus Christ. Praise the Lord for that day that cometh!

And thank you, Lord, for making the TRUTH manifest!

Thank you 4givN&hope4U for posting this thread, this has been on my mind since I overheard someone the other day talking about Oprah's show.

2Timothy 3:1-5
1*You should also know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2*For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3*They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control; they will be cruel and have no interest in what is good. 4*They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5*They will act as if they are religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. You must stay away from people like that.

This is a good thread, this scenario shows how easily we all can be decieved if we walk in our own understanding. Frey deceived many with his book. I am tired of all the 12 step, 30 day, road to recovery, self help and self improvement books, pamphlets, study guides and videos.

Jesus is the way to recovery, help, improvement, healing and freedom. Study Jesus, get to know Him and He will set you free. Save your money for helping the poor and needy.

For as many as walk by their own understanding of the Truth, these are the sons of God. No they are deceived and blind!

Romans 8:14
*For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.

Don't get me wrong, there are some very good and helpful books out there, but there is a lot more garbage books than good books. Remember that to most it is a business ( a billion dollar business at that). I couldn't begin to tell you how many books I have thrown away because they stray from the truth. Please, if you have a book like this don't pass it on, burn it!

Let's encourage one another to yield to the Holy Spirit's leading and seek to know this Christ, Jesus our Lord.

Thank you, jiggyfly, for all those wonderful reminders from our Father's Word!

I love "Todays Qoute", also, about being exhausted on the battlefield. I am at that point and have been, much so now, for a good year or more. I'm working it out, with the Lord, working on staying focused on His Word and not on my own understandings and I just really appreciate those, so on the topic, verses you shared with me/us. :o)

Please pray for me!

Thank You,
