Job 4:6-7 King James Version (KJV)

6 Is not this thy fear, thy confidence, thy hope, and the uprightness of thy ways?

7 Remember, I pray thee, who ever perished, being innocent? or where were the righteous cut off?

Job 4:6-7Lexham English Bible (LEB)

6 Is not your fear in God your confidence? Is not your hope even the integrity of your ways?7 “Think now, who has perished who is innocent?
Or where are the upright destroyed?

These are my thoughts, please share yours.

6 None of us our blameless but this was a great honor to be known as righteous and to be known as a worshiper of God. This is a message of hope given, sometimes we need that.

7 This is where it changes because he is stating bad things do not happen to good people, the truth is there is no good people, we are all at fault and if bad things happened only to bad people then Christ who was perfect would not have died for us.

Greetings,

I must admit that you lost me there!

Regarding the Scripture above,
Job 4:6-7
Taken completely on their own, as if a Scripture unto themselves, one can invent whatever one likes BUT, the advice being given by Eliphaz the Temanite is in ignorance of what and why such destruction happened to Job.
Later in the Book of Job we shall see more evidence of this. Job spoke strongly to Eliphaz :
Job 6:14 To him that is afflicted pity should be shewed from his friend; but he forsaketh the fear of the Almighty.

And an interesting insight comes from here :
Job 6:21 For now ye are nothing; ye see my casting down, and are afraid.
Afraid? Is this what is behind the words of Eliphaz? How often fearful man will grasp at straws and cover their fear by projecting that which they fear upon another. They too will relish belittling a righteous man at the slightest opportunity. Here we see two men more interested in pretending to be more righteous than the suffering Job, making the most of his grief to preach to him, rather than comfort him.
Job 7:13-15
When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint; Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions: So that my soul chooseth strangling, and death rather than my life. (referring to Job 4:12-14 - a few verses on from those which we are looking at here.)

Is this something of what the Apostle Paul was meaning?
Romans 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

We already know of Job that,
And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Job 1:8
He was not suffering for any wrongdoing.
Refer back to the first Chapter(s) of the Book of Job.

Bless you ....><>

'Is not this thy fear,
thy confidence,
thy hope,
and the uprightness of
thy ways?
Remember, I pray thee,
who ever perished, being innocent?
or where were the righteous cut off?

(Job 4:6,7)

Metrical version:-
[Ought] not thy fear [of God to be] thy trust?
And the uprightness of thy ways thy hope?
Reflect; when has the guiltless been destroyed?
Or when were any upright ones cut off?

Referring to the last chapter of Job, I read the words which God spoke to Eliphaz, ' My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of Me the thing that is right, as My servant Job hath.' These words show us how we are to view the words spoken by these three men, don't they?
My Bible marginal notes tell me that Eliphaz argued from the standpoint of human experience. Bildad argued from human tradition. Zophar argued from the ground of human merit. It is good to keep this in mind as we read what they have to say, isn't it?

Thank you, Clark.
