this day, December 8th, 26 years ago, John Lennon (beatles guitarist, songwriter, peace activist) was assasinated.

Considering this is the anniversary of whom i believe to be one of the greatest songwriters, if not, just one cool dude who believed everybody should live as one without war and conflict, in peace and harmony, i decided to mention him.

Although i dont think he was necessarily a christian, he was involved in some anti-war movements, and other peace related movements, during and around the Vietnam War. For this, I believe although he wasnt a firm Believer in God, he still had good intentions and was, in my opinion, a good person.
Im not too sure if anybody here likes Lennon, so i wont go on about him. I just figured being the anniversary of his death, he should be mentioned.

I do have a question though. What if there are those who dont put total trust and faith in the Lord, but still abide by and follow God's rules and commandments, just not for the sake of God, rather for the sake of being good at heart. This doesnt make them a "bad" person, but they still dont have faith in God. So what happens to these people? They cant get punished or anything, or do they? So i dont know, im kind of confused. I guess..

anyways, the anniversary of John Lennons death, i believe in my heart he was a good person, regardless whether or not he was a christian.

peace and love, God Bless all.

oh and by the way,
november 30th, 2001, the other Beatles guitarist, George Harrison, died. I figured I should mention him too since he was in the same band and many people forget him because of McCartney and Lennon's fame.

ok im done.

wow,
you seem very interested in the beatles, huh?

well, i though you were going to ask this question and i was talking to one of my friends about a week ago about this matter.

i was saying that "good" ppl aren't always christian ones, so what realy hapens to them? and i figured the answer is very clear in the Bible, i don't remember the verses now, but the "rule", if i may put it that way, to entering the kingdom of God or to go to Heaven is that the person, no matter how good he is or what hes done throught his life or what his convictions were or what he worked hard for.....has to be saved by the holy blood of Christ. that is the only way to our Father's palace!

i would also like to mention the book: Heaven is So Real( or 23 minutes in Hell, i can't remember any more), in which the author emphasizes, that no one enters heaven unless he or she is shed saved by the blood of Christ. We do not deserve it anyways, but it's a payed gift that God offered us and we are free to accept it or reject it (we should make a diffrence in this world and make this clear for everyone.).

Excuse me, i didn't realize my post was so long untill i pressed the Page Up button...i think that's it!

Blessings everyone
ps:it's a good idea to remember these events, so thank you EuphoricForest:icon_wink:

Hi there,

There is only one standard of goodness and righteousness that God can except and that is his own. If anyone does not measure up to God's standard of goodness and perfection it's not good enough. The apostle Paul put it this way, ... for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God
Romans 3:23. The trouble with men is they often compare themselves with themselves which is not wise, and it gives them a false notion of what is right and wrong; because it based on the standards of a sinner.

As for John Lennon I'm no expert, but he did do and say some very anti Christian things in his life. The words to the song ' Imagine,' seem to suggest a humanistic utopia with out God in it. As for good intentions, there is said to be a path to a certain place that is paved with those!

Blessings,
Tonyb

Please do not start threads like this again. This is Talk JESUS and only JESUS. Lennon is DEAD while Jesus is ALIVE & RISEN! Jesus is Savior, Lennon is dust.

To answer your question about what happens to such people who do not believe in Jesus Christ as Savior:

John 14:6
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

In a simple way, no Jesus = no life = eternal damnation aka Hell.

I don't want anymore ridiculous threads about dead people who did not glorify GOD. Please respect that decision. There is no edification, no hope, no glory to GOD in such threads like this about such unbelievers as a dead man who wrote songs that the world loved, yet not one song was any thanksgiving or praise to Jesus. How shameful!

All my righteousness is as filthy rags to God and so is everyone else's.
No matter how good, there is no good enough. Even Jesus said "why do you call me good? For only God is good."

wow chad, im sorry i dissapointed you. I hope you know that iim not trying to promote john lennon as being better than Jesus or something, i was just simply asking a question which you answered thoroughly. and for that i thank you.

i didnt think it was bad to listen to music which doesnt always glorify God.
guess i was wrong.

but now i know, as chad so thoughtfully pointed out, that in the bible it says that if you dont accept Jesus, you go to hell.

anyways, i was always led under the impression that God doesnt want any harm done to his children in which he made. Figuring he is our father, he wouldnt want us to suffer eternal damnation. Furthermore i thought God, due to his immense love for everyone of his children, would acknowledge even those who may have made the mistake of not accepting Jesus as their savior. However i was wrong i guess, as Chad pointed out.

all i am trying to say, which Chad, you will most likely get mad at me for, but i thought that maybe there are some people who are just confused about the whole Jesus thing, and may do good in all other aspects in life, but just havnt accepted Jesus. ANd since God knows peoples hearts, he would accept them even though they may be slightly "confused" or something, i dont know..

obviously im NOT trying to say its alright if you dont accept Jesus, because i believe he is our savior and should be accepted into everyones hearts, but i dont know, i thought we werent supposed to judge others...

im sorry for this thread, delete it if you seem fit chad.
and thanks again for everyones replies.

God Bless.
