Hi

I was thinking about the thread that is about Harry Potter, and I honestly didn't know that so many of you would be against that. SO now I am wondering what else is kind of "typical Christian thoughts" on other subjects. So if any of you have opinions on the following please share!

Santa Clause, reindeer, stockings....etc

Tooth fairy

Easter Bunny

horoscopes

Science Fiction movies, books

halloween (already mentioned in the other post)

I am just guessing what a lot of you will say about these things...and so if you don't agree with harry potter and science fiction and things liek that I am wondering where/when you draw the line with you and your children?

Ok. . . there are a few thoughts on some more. . .on some less

Santa Clause:

We do have a christmas tree and our kids do get presents too. . .
We usually put up our christmas tree together at the beginning of December. . .we enjoy decorating the livingroom very much and visit christmas markets. . .add one little piece per person to the tree each year and so much on that. . .

From that day on. . .when the little chocolate calenders on the wall become less and less towards christmas. .. we start adding school crafts and little surprises and soon the first presents under that tree. . .if family sends christmas packages. . .the land as yellow post-mailbox right under the tree. . .so . . .
there is no story about Santa.. . the kids add . .. mail comes in. . . sometimes they wake up or come from school and there are some new ones and they wonder. . .

Then at christmas eve, the 24th, we have an extra church service and from there we go home and repeat and talk about Jesus and who he is and what he did. . .Easter comes up at Christmas. . as much as Christmas comes up on Easter
Then we eat and share presents with each other. . .sometimes we keep half the presents for the christmas morning. . .sometimes we dont open the presents till christmas morning. . .

Well me beign a child my self my parents todl em all about Santa and stuff i believen it til about 6 lol and the same with the easter bunny and the tooth fairy what is that?? LOL i used to believe in her when i was loosing teeth but i hardly ever do any more and when i found out that Santa claus sleeps in the same bed as my mummy yeah all of those fantasy's died... lol

I dont celebrate christmas at all.Very little of the christmas traditions have anything to do with Jesus or christianity,the same goes with easter and halloween.I DO celebrate the Jesus death,i think it is the singular most important date of the year.At that time i like to read the the gospels and reaquaint myself with his last moments and the sacrafice he made for us.As for entertainment i will watch or read anything that sits ok with my conciense.

Santa Clause - was a real person, over time became a worldly figure with the fake flying reindereers, etc. He was originally gift giving generous man.

Tooth fairy = FAIRY

Easter Bunny = very cute but not sure about anything to do with EASTER tradition itself.

halloween = satans holiday, all the graven images, the witches, violance, "scary" feeling is of satan not GOD.

Ok well I was unsaved when children were first learning of Santa my kids believed in Him but... I am not very sure in the idea anymore... See we tell kids Santa is real that tooth fairy is real that Easter bunny is real and then we tell them that Jesus is real. Well eventually they see that the first three mentioned is not real then that helps feed doubt about Jesus. I perfer to be honest with my kids about those things. It is very hard because I started off on the wrong step when they were younger.

What is also hard is that my maiden name is Santa( go figure lol). So to my kids my dad is Santa.( which is partial true because my parents spoil the stuffing out of them lol)

As Chad gave scripture about horoscope i fully agree with him.

Hehe JLU. . .our last name is NOEL which stands for christmas in french :shade: We always think its really neat when ribbons hang on malls at christmas season. .. our kids thought they were greeting us . . . :shade:

The toothfairy:

I never knew that one when I was little. . .but I heard about it in the States. . .and we kinda started it with our kids. . . by age 10 they figured it all out and stuff because we messed up and so on . . . so it was fun for them to see that mom and dad tried to come up with this silly story to celebrate a tooth falling out . . . made us feel weird too. . .we quit that. . .the boys now have little toothboxes where they can collect them if they feel like it . . .if they loose it. . .just as good. . .nobody plays it anymore lol. . .

toothfairy

What made me think to post this thread is that I was going through all of my old stuff in storage yesterday...so thinking a lot about my wonderful childhood. I have all of these notes from....the toothfairy! When I was in grade 1 and 2 I had a pen pal and it was the toothfairy (my mom)...we would exchange letters and littlegifts every once in a while under my pillow. I completely 100% thought I was writing to a little fairy...in numerous letters I asked her to show herself to me and come with us on holidays...I even asked how i can become a toothfairy! lol. Anyhow it was harmless...my mom learned a lot about me from the letters and I had a really special friend in the toothfairy who made sure I new how much my family loved me...and she even told me about god...go figure. A Igrew up I realized that the toothfairy was my mom (same stationary, same hand writing, same stickers etc) but that didn't stop me from beleiveing in god. I totally believed in god when I was little...and believing in the toothfairy didn't hinder that...it's now, when I don't believe in the toothfairy, that I have the problem with believeing in god! lol Anyhow I think it was so fun, and it is too bad that some kids can not have this imagination and this whimsical secret part of their life...because they believe in god. Can't there be both?? It's kind of sad to me!
