Keep thyself from strange doctrine, keep thyself pure.

God in the Old Testament told the children of Israel to keep themselves from strange gods, and to the men He commanded they were to keep themselves from strange women. The reason being God wanted to keep the children of Israel free from strange beliefs and the strange doctrines of the surrounding nations. God wants a pure and holy people.

God commanded that we should love strangers, but we are to keep ourselves pure from their strange doctrine. The word strange means something that is foreign or alien, so foreign beliefs could defile a pure form of doctrine like adding a foreign material to something that is pure, or like adding bad leaven to a pure bread. God's words are pure, and Jesus said it was the doctrine of men that was the leaven that his disciples were to beware.

We have examples and signs of this strange doctrine in scripture, when the sons of Aaron offered “strange” fire before the Lord which He did not command them, and they were consumed by the fire of the Lord. On the altar of the Lord no strangers, or strange incense, were to make offerings, or to be offered to the Lord, and if a stranger came near unto the altar they were to be put to death. Jesus told us a stranger's voice His sheep would not hear or follow. We must know Him, and be known by Him.

Another sign we are given of this is when God commanded that an altar was to be made of whole stones, untouched by man's devices and tools in Deut. chapter 27 verse 5. Also, when the house of the Lord was being constructed by Solomon, the Lord commanded no sound of man's devices were to be heard within the house. The stones that required man's devices to be shapen were to be done outside of the house, but within the house none of man's devices were to be heard. Also in the law, the flesh of the sacrifices were to be burned outside the camp, as those who were unclean were also to be kept outside the camp until they were made clean. We in this evil world are presently outside the camp so to speak, and are being purified and made white, for those who understand.

God was also showing in all this how important it is to keep His words pure, free from the impure doctrines of men. And this also shows how important it is that His people also keep themselves pure from sin, and also from impurities like foreign beliefs, and traditions etc. These whole stones that were to be untouched by mans devices represented greater spiritual stones that are used to construct the Lords house in heaven, just as Peter said we are living stones built up unto a spiritual house which the Lord builds, not men.

If you look at the design of the first tabernacle, God instructed them to use “pure” materials. The gold was to be pure, the olive oil was to be pure, there was a pure candlestick, a pure table, and the anointing oil was to be pure and holy and was not to be put on strangers. The priesthood of the Lord was also to be purified and made pure in order to minister to God. So God is also wanting His people to be purified and made pure, free from spot or blemish, free from sin, and free from all strange doctrine and foreign influences.

God wants His children to be of a pure of heart, of a pure mind, and of a pure conscience; without spot or blemish, a pure and holy people. Like Paul said we were once strangers and aliens from the common wealth of Israel, but now we are made nigh by the blood of Jesus Christ. As it is the water and the blood of the Lamb of God that cleanses and purifies us, as all things in the tabernacle were also purged with blood.

Hebrews 9:11-24 11 But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building;12 Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.16 For where a testament is, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator.17 For a testament is of force after men are dead: otherwise it is of no strength at all while the testator liveth. 18 Whereupon neither the first testament was dedicated without blood.

19 For when Moses had spoken every precept to all the people according to the law, he took the blood of calves and of goats, with water, and scarlet wool, and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book, and all the people, 20 Saying, This is the blood of the testament which God hath enjoined unto you.21 Moreover he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle, and all the vessels of the ministry.

22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.23 It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

24 For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:"

Peace and God bless

Ezekiel 44:9
Thus saith the Lord God; No stranger, uncircumcised in heart, nor uncircumcised in flesh, shall enter into my sanctuary, of any stranger that is among the children of Israel”

If you are known by Him, you are not a stranger.

John 10:1-14

King James Version

10 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2 But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3 To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5 And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6 This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7 Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8 All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12 But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13 The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14 I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.”

Strangers He does not know…

Matthew 25:12
But he answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I know you not.

Luke 13:24-27

King James Version

24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.”
