Acts 21:16-40:-

'There went with us also certain of the disciples of Caesarea,
and brought with them one Mnason of Cyprus,
an old disciple, with whom we should lodge.
And when we were come to Jerusalem,
the brethren received us gladly.'
(Acts 21:16-17)

'And the day following Paul went in with us unto James;
.. and all the elders were present.
.... And when he had saluted them,
...... he declared particularly what things God had wrought
........ among the Gentiles by his ministry.
And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord ..., '
(Acts 21:18-20a)

' ... and said unto him,
.. 'Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe;
.... and they are all zealous of the law:
...... And they are informed of thee,
........ that thou teachest all the Jews which are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses,
.......... saying that they ought not to circumcise their children,
............ neither to walk after the customs.
What is it therefore?
.. the multitude must needs come together:
.... for they will hear that thou art come.'
(Acts 21:20b-22)

'Do therefore this that we say to thee:
.. We have four men which have a vow on them;
.... Them take, and purify thyself with them,
...... and be at charges with them,
........ that they may shave their heads:
and all may know that those things,
.. whereof they were informed concerning thee, are nothing;
.... but that thou thyself also walkest orderly,
...... and keepest the law.'
(Acts 21:18-24)

'As touching the Gentiles which believe,
.. we have written and concluded that they observe no such thing,
.... save only that they keep themselves from things offered to idols,
...... and from blood, and from strangled, and from fornication.'
(Acts 21:25)

'Then Paul took the men,
and the next day purifying himself with them
entered into the temple,
to signify the accomplishment of the days of purification,
until that an offering should be offered for every one of them.'
(Act 21:26)

'And when the seven days were almost ended,
.. the Jews which were of Asia,
.... when they saw him in the temple,
...... stirred up all the people,
........ and laid hands on him,
Crying out, "Men of Israel, help:
.. This is the man,
.... that teacheth all men every where
...... against the people,
........ and the law,
.......... and this place:
............ and further brought Greeks also into the temple,
.............. and hath polluted this holy place.
(For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian,
whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.)
................ And all the city was moved,
.................. and the people ran together:
.................... and they took Paul,
...................... and drew him out of the temple:
........................ and forthwith the doors were shut.'
(Act 21:27-30)

'And as they went about to kill him,
.. tidings came unto the chief captain of the band,
.... that all Jerusalem was in an uproar.
...... Who immediately took soldiers and centurions,
........ and ran down unto them:
.......... and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers,
............ they left beating of Paul.
Then the chief captain came near,
.. and took him,
.... and commanded him to be bound with two chains;
...... and demanded who he was,
....... and what he had done.'
(Act 21:31-33)

'And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude:
.. and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult,
.... he commanded him to be carried into the castle.
...... And when he came upon the stairs,
........ so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers
.......... for the violence of the people.
............ For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, "Away with him."
And as Paul was to be led into the castle,
.. he said unto the chief captain, "May I speak unto thee?"
.... Who said, "Canst thou speak Greek?
...... Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar,
........ and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?"
But Paul said," I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus,
.. a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city:
.... and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people.
...... And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs,
........ and beckoned with the hand unto the people.
.......... And when there was made a great silence,
............ he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying, ... ... ... '
(Act 21:34-40)

* Oh my! What a storm of opposition Paul met, didn't he? He didn't have to wait long for the prophecies which had been made concerning him to begin to come to fruition. Beginning with the believing Jews, who because zealous of the law, were angry with Paul; having heard biased reporting concerning him. The Elders, having heard his own report, concerning His ministry, had glorified God on the basis of it, and the fruit that it bore; but were concerned that the fervour of these believing Jews, who would want to congregate to hear him, could result in him coming to harm. So they arranged a means whereby he could silence his accusers, by showing that he was indeed one who, as a believing Jew himself, observed the law, and walked uprightly.

Yet it also provided opportunity. God would take care of Paul, as He had taken care of Jeremiah, and the other prophets of the Old Testament, in the face of violent opposition; all Paul had to do, was to trust and not be afraid, and speak forth the truth of the gospel that had been committed unto Him, as opportunity presented itself.

We have been given many precious promises, in Christ Jesus our Lord; and we too must trust and not be afraid, but walk forward resolutely, believing, that what God says He will assuredly do. :)

May His Name be Praised!

Thank you
In Christ Jesus
Chris
I remember when 1st read the book, I said what have gotten myself into, and everybody was so happy in the church about what GOD was doing in their Life and blessing them, I kept getting confused, and wonder, we cannot be reading the same book!:sob: I remember cursing God out in my car driving, how come you are blessing every body but me, And I keep reading the Bible over again, and over again, then I got, I got it

I was born again and going in the wrong direction following the People and saying what they said, Quoting how they quoted the word. I was wrong and they were too, The book says this they said that. And the faith they were calling faith was "vain hope":sob:

' Wherefore seeing we also
are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses,
let us lay aside every weight,
and the sin which doth so easily beset us,
and let us run with patience
the race that is set before us,
Looking unto Jesus
the author and finisher of our faith;
Who for the joy that was set before Him
endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.'
(Heb 12:1)

Hello @PloughBoy,

A boat at anchor turns around to face the oncoming tide doesn't it?

So do we in Christ Jesus.

'Men, brethren, and fathers,
.. hear ye my defence which I make now unto you.
(And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them,
they kept the more silence: and he saith,
)
.... I am verily a man which am a Jew,
...... born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia,
........ yet brought up in this city (Jerusalem)
.......... at the feet of Gamaliel,
............ and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers,
.............. and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day.'
(Act 22:1-3)

'And I persecuted this way unto the death,
.. binding and delivering into prisons both men and women.
.... As also the high priest doth bear me witness,
...... and all the estate of the elders:
........ from whom also I received letters unto the brethren,
.......... and went to Damascus,
............ to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem,
.............. for to be punished.'
(Acts 22:4-5)

'And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey,
.. and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon,
.... suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me.
...... And I fell unto the ground,
........ and heard a voice saying unto me, "Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou Me?"
.......... And I answered, "Who art thou, Lord?"
............ And He said unto me, "I am Jesus of Nazareth, Whom thou persecutest." (Matthew 25:40)
And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid;
but they heard not the voice of Him that spake to me.
.............. And I said, "What shall I do, Lord? "
................ And the Lord said unto me, "Arise, and go into Damascus;
.................. and there it shall be told thee
.................... of all things which are appointed for thee to do."

(Act 22:6-10)

'And when I could not see for the glory of that light,
.. being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus.
.... And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law,
...... having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there,
........ Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, "Brother Saul, receive thy sight."
.......... And the same hour I looked up upon him.'
(Act 22:11-14)

And he said, "The God of our fathers hath chosen thee,
.. that thou shouldest know His will,
.... and see that Just One,
...... and shouldest hear the voice of His mouth.
........ For thou shalt be his witness unto all men
.......... of what thou hast seen and heard.

............ And now why tarriest thou?
.............. arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins,
................ calling on the name of the Lord."
(Act 22:14-16)

Praise God!

'And it came to pass, that,
.. when I was come again to Jerusalem,
.... even while I prayed in the temple,
...... I was in a trance;
........ And saw Him saying unto me, "Make haste, and get thee quickly out of Jerusalem:
.......... for they will not receive thy testimony concerning Me."
(Act 22:17-18)

'And I said, "Lord, they know that I imprisoned
.. and beat
.... in every synagogue
...... them that believed on Thee:
........ And when the blood of Thy martyr Stephen was shed,
.......... I also was standing by, and consenting unto his death,
............ and kept the raiment of them that slew him."
.............. And He said unto me, "Depart: for I will send thee far hence unto the Gentiles."
(Act 22:19-21)

"And they gave him audience unto this word,
.. and then lifted up their voices, and said,
.... "Away with such a fellow from the earth: for it is not fit that he should live."
...... And as they cried out,
........ and cast off their clothes,
.......... and threw dust into the air,
............ The chief captain commanded him to be brought into the castle,
.............. and bade that he should be examined by scourging;
................ that he might know wherefore they cried so against him.
................. And as they bound him with thongs,
.................. Paul said unto the centurion that stood by,
................... "Is it lawful for you to scourge a man that is a Roman, and uncondemned?"
(Act 22:22-25)

'When the centurion heard that,
.. he went and told the chief captain, saying,
.... "Take heed what thou doest: for this man is a Roman."
...... Then the chief captain came, and said unto him, "Tell me, art thou a Roman?" He said, "Yea."
........ And the chief captain answered, "With a great sum obtained I this freedom." And Paul said, "But I was free born."
.......... Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him:
.............. and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.
................ On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews,
.................. he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear,
.................... and brought Paul down, and set him before them.'

Paul was playing them he knew, He was one of the best And the most Intelligent of the Pharisees, even it was God who was His real instructor in The schools of Pharisees He belong To GOD even then The LORD was teaching him. He did not just become A chosen Vessel Of GOD. he always was from His mothers womb.

New American Standard Bible "Galatians 1:15"
"But when He who had set me apart even from my mother’s womb and called me through His grace was pleased"

Remember do not force yourself into the Bible where you find GOD's WORD for His WORD is Hidden in the Bible and His Word comes From above, Just read it, Put it in you and when He gets ready He sends it down.

Remember we are not like the people of this world our Manna comes down from Heaven and it filters through the Bible to our brains the food for the brain to understand What God has Spoke to Our Soul New Creation through the "Parakletos" So what we read to day might be reveal tomorrow on Friday when God is ready to tells what he wants Us to know at a certain time, We do not get what God wants us to know when we get ready and decides when, we are not like them, They cannot understand The language of GOD, we just do the data Entry, he does the processing,

Apostle is a Treat, He become All to win others, He has acted like he belong to cult to win the cults, shave his head acting like he is worshippers of Idol Gods, to sneak among so to slipping his agenda. He has made me laugh so many times. Sometimes bidding and not let so know he is a Roman, then all of the sudden he springs it on then=m at the right time, and then other times he brings out his Jewish background because of His, And What made things go real well with him, He could Speak from 6-7 different kind of Languages so he could play them and Slip that Gospel according to Jesus Christ so easy and some times he would at stupid and unintelligent.

Paul is a treat, I learn a lot from His Tactics. Jesus had some good ones too! if my brothers and sisters in christ would leave these pastors and other minsters along and read all of there dime store cowboys and get well acquainted with the character of Jesus and The Character of Paul they are similar the same Tactics. But yours see it and be in character with them,, So many people do not believe Bible reading is a act, That The really has to taught to them by "the PARAKLETOS" one must be taught by God how to read the bible as well as to study it, But reading it is fun and exciting. and dreaming about it is very colorful, dreaming about what you have read, "the Word of GOD" is not Boxed In, it has no Boundaries and systematically, the mind of GOD is like that, If you read systematic you will think systematically and when dream the Bible if read it systematically you also will dream systematically. if your read scatter all over the place in your bible studying and reading your dreams will be mix up! I learn that a long time ago. they is no solid substance to my dreams, Not complete systematic way, when yogurt up and then you can say Ok I got, and then go on about your day and give it not an other thought, Until God one day bring it up toyer attention, you do not have todo any research, it already has been done, And The "parakletos" will bring to your remembrance what God Has already told you, Just like a Computers memory, "RAM" "The Random Access Memory" not the "ROM" "Read out Memory" But the "RAM" in The bush!:sob:

Like that The RAM in the bush!

complete

I Like talking like this and I know I can talk to you "Complete" and you get it. Note: this text editor is bad it rewrites and add together words even after I recheck, it rewrites and the spell checker do not catch it, and at time respell words again, wrong.:sob: I proof read and have no idea what it rewrote, now I do type without looking at keys too, and I type fast. Old school, I took 2 years of typing in high school and my dad bought one for me. and I always had a typewriter until about 15 years ago.

Paul boarded and sail for "Arssos" and met others and they Sailed on To "Mitylene" and from there sailed off "Kios" and then to "

Now letting them know , that he might not see Him again.:pensive:

Acts 20: 25-38
25“Now I know that none of you among whom I have gone about preaching the kingdom will ever see me again. 26Therefore, I declare to you today that I am innocent of the blood of any of you. 27For I have not hesitated to proclaim to you the whole will of God. 28Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of "The Congregation of God", a Which He Bought With His Own Blood. b 29I know that after I leave, Savage Wolves Will Come In Among You and Will Not Spare The Flock. 30Even From Your Own Number Men Will Arise And Distort The Truth In Order To Draw Away Disciples After Them. 31So be on your guard! 36When Paul had finished speaking, he knelt down with all of them and prayed. 37They all wept as they embraced him and kissed him. 38What grieved them most was his statement That They Would Never See His Face Again. Then they accompanied him to the ship.

Behold, are you willing to know "Worship"

For this IS "Worship" Worshipping your LORD and Savior, Behold "True Worship"

1 Corinthians 11 ASV
1Be ye imitators of me, even as I also am of Christ.

2Now I praise you that ye remember me in all things, and hold fast the traditions, even as I delivered them to you. 3But I would have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God.

1 Corinthians 3 NIV

10By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. 11For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, 13their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work. 14If what has been built survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15If it is burned up, the builder will suffer loss but yet will be saved—even though only as one escaping through the flames.:pensive:

Acts 21: 1-16 NIV84
in this portion of "holy Scripture" I have notice on "Paul's travels across The Different Regions and every since he has Started going back to "Jerusalem" the Brothers and sisters in Christ, have been telling him: Please, do not go back to "Jerusalem" please do not go back to that place. please PAUl, crying with tears. don't go to "Jerusalem".

And since we have the "whole bible" and have read it. and we know of its contents. and The many Days of The history of Jerusalem, even from The very day it was taken Raided and given the name "Jerusalem" :pensive: That is why we can see why, That Jerusalem is a very bad and evil place, especially for Apostle Paul. The Horrors of that place have gain terror and mounted with evil, since the day That "The LORD" in "The Garden of EDEN" curse "That SERPENT" when The LORD Stated:

Genesis 3 NASB
“Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all the livestock,
And more than any animal of the field;
On your belly you shall go,

And dust you shall eat
All the days of your life;

15And I Will make enemies
Of you and the woman,

And of your "offspring" and her "Descendant;"
He shall bruise you on the head,
And you shall bruise Him on the heel.”:pensive:

Now may us continue to read "The text at Hand":
Acts 21: 1-16 NIV84
On to Jerusalem

1After we had torn ourselves away from them, we put out to sea and sailed straight to Kos. The next day we went to Rhodes and from there to Patara. 2We found a ship crossing over to Phoenicia, went on board and set sail. 3After sighting Cyprus and passing to the south of it, we sailed on to Syria. We landed at Tyre, where our ship was to unload its cargo. 4We sought out the disciples there and stayed with them seven days. Through the Spirit they urged Paul not to go on to Jerusalem. 5When it was time to leave, we left and continued on our way. All of them, including wives and children, accompanied us out of the city, and there on the beach we knelt to pray. 6After saying goodbye to each other, we went aboard the ship, and they returned home.

7We continued our voyage from Tyre and landed at Ptolemais, where we greeted the brothers and sisters and stayed with them for a day. 8Leaving the next day, we reached Caesarea and Stayed At The House Of Philip The Evangelist, One Of The Seven. 9He Had Four Unmarried Daughters Who Prophesied.

10After we had been there a number of days, A Prophet Named Agabus Came Down From Judea. 11Coming Over To Us, He Took Paul’s Belt, Tied His Own Hands And Feet With It And Said, “The Holy Spirit Says, ‘In This Way The Jewish Leaders In Jerusalem Will Bind The Owner Of This Belt And Will Hand Him Over To The Gentiles.’ ”

12When we heard this, we and the people there pleaded with Paul not to go up to Jerusalem. 13Then Paul answered, “Why are you weeping and breaking my heart? I am ready not only to be bound, but also to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.14When he would not be dissuaded, we gave up and said, “The Lord’s will be done.”

15After this, we started on our way up to Jerusalem. 16Some of the disciples from Caesarea accompanied us and brought us to the home of Mnason, where we were to stay. He was a man from Cyprus and One Of The Early Disciples.

“Because you have done this,
Cursed are you more than all the livestock,
And more than any animal of the field;
On your belly you shall go,

And dust you shall eat
All the days of your life;

Hello @PloughBoy,

Yes, bonds awaited Paul, and he knew it, for the Lord had already forewarned him, but he did not allow that to deter him from fulfilling the Lord's will for Him, did he? He walked by faith and not by sight, according to the spirit, and not according to the flesh.

The believers he met along the way, to whom knowledge had been given, by the Holy Spirit, of what awaited Paul, were distressed naturally, according to the flesh, and sought to prevent him from proceeding on his way (Acts 21:12): but Paul's reply was, 'What mean ye to weep and to break mine heart? for I am ready not to be bound only, but also to die at Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.' Which resulted in the believers ceasing all attempts to dissuade him, saying, 'The will of the LORD be done'.

In regard to what you say concerning Jerusalem, the opening verse (above) came to mind, and the words of the Lord's parable, below:-

(11) And again he sent another servant:
and they beat him also,
and entreated him shamefully,
and sent him away empty.
(12) And again he sent a third:
and they wounded him also,
and cast him out.
(13) Then said the lord of the vineyard, What shall I do?
I will send my beloved son:
it may be they will reverence him when they see him.
(14) But when the husbandmen saw him,
they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir:
come, let us kill him, that the inheritance may be ours.
(15) So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him.
What therefore shall the lord of the vineyard do unto them?
(16) He shall come and destroy these husbandmen,
and shall give the vineyard to others.
And when they heard it, they said, God forbid.
(17) And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written,
The stone which the builders rejected,
the same is become the head of the corner?
(18) Whosoever shall fall upon that stone shall be broken;
but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.'
(Luke 20:11-18)

Praise God!

For many christian do not know in the eyes of "GOD" Jerusalem is know as "A place That Kills and stone Prophets". But many christians read it but do not believe it and see how horrible that God sees it. "JERUSALEM" an diamanté's Not referring to The Beloved city "That is coming down from the Sky in heaven, which is The real Holy city that is a "jewel of His eye" but christians and the world sees The Worldly Type and Shadow of that which is to come. for many kind desires the world and not the Things of "The True GOD' the world desirers and honors "The Type and Shadows" of That which is to come. They glorified the contamination and deem it "HOLY" and beyond reproached.

Matthew 24;2
1As Jesus left the temple and was walking away, His disciples came up to Him to point out its buildings. 2 Do you see all these things?” He replied. “Truly I tell you, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.”

For natural Jerusalem is a very evil place, and many cannot see it. because they do not believe the Bible nor the words of Jesus. because of This kingdom we live in now, for the Devil has blinded the Whole world even me. No one escapes The darkness of this world the Light we have, it Lights up our own Path that is right in front of us, as we travel through his world. it lights our own path. we cannot light the world up so those who are walking in the dark can see.

John 4:21
…20Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.” 21“Believe Me, woman,” Jesus replied, “A Time Is Coming When you Will Worship The Father Neither On This Mountain Nor In Jerusalem. 22You worship what you do not know;:pensive:

Jerusalem is an evil place and always have been.
It is a "type and shadow' of the True that is to come, and then comes "The Comes the Perfect"

Remember "Parables are not real" and remember we do not give that which is Holy to dogs or cast our Pearls to swine, and neither does "Jesus Christ" or The Father" they hide the Truth from some eyes. because the Father do not want them to see. The world want God to be human like them. He is not human, He is "GOD" and he has his own Purpose. and He will reveal it All to us at "Our Coronation".

New King James Version
“Make the heart of this people dull, And their ears heavy, And shut their eyes; Lest they see with their eyes, And hear with their ears, And understand with their heart, And return and be healed.”

New American Standard Bible
“Make the hearts of this people insensitive, Their ears dull, And their eyes blind, So that they will not see with their eyes, Hear with their ears, Understand with their hearts, And return and be healed.”

he does not want them
to understand. Now is that a bad thing for GOD" ? God kills all the time and no matter what he does he is not bad, "HE IS GOD" and many do not even have the slightest meaning what that means, You cannot put A Label on "GOD" The word "GOD" Summarize it all! and there is nothing in the front or the back. when we try to define Him, we have "Miss the MARK"!

They do not see it but we do! because He has been "Unveil" Through "The Revelation of HIS SON" "The UNVEILING OF HIS SON" was his Son unveiled in The Old Testament"? no. "The revelation of HIS SON came in "The New Covenant Agreement" which was
Ratified When He Got Up From The Grave After 3 Days And 3 Nights. He rose up Him self, Like he said: "I got power
to lay it down and to raise it up again" and my Father is greater than me:eyes:

That statement alone ought to blow anyones Mind. How could anything be more powerful that JESUS the One who created every thing That has been Created . so we have not even seen "The POWER" of The FATHER on display.:pensive: Now that makes me want to faint and to pass out! Your mind Goes Blank and hit A wall when you go there. GOD the FATHER is Beyond POWER he gives POWER out, He is beyond POWER>

when a person thinks that
God is all -powerful, He has mis The MARK. He is something else beyond Power, He gives it out. He does not give some of his power out, He gives Power out .like candy in His pocket.

Now that is The difference in
knowing "The Son and knowing The Father" I Heard what Jesus said and he does not have to explain it to me.

And
the Bible said, that God the Father said; "This is my Beloved Son in whom I am
well please. "LISTEN to HIM" and He said The Son said MY FATHER is Greater THAN I":eyes: AND I Heard Him, he does not has to explain that to me!:eyes: I get it. I GET IT.:sob:

SO,

I knew it was coming. and I knew that the "LORD" was going to breathe fresh life on the text. On how evil "Jerusalem" was going to appear. And Paul had me laughing and "The Roman Commander". They was going to that "Kill" that Paul and James and all of the Disciples of Christ was not going to now where in sight, every body was going to hiding. Paul thought he was going to get away acting like he was a part of "A Cult" shaved his Head. walking around with No hair, Those spotted Him. And The WHOLE City of "Jerusalem" found out that Paul was There, The whole City went after Him, They found him in The Temple and drag his Bald Head self out and start Beating like a rag doll! The Roman Commander RAN out there and Brought The ARMY with him to see what was wrong, They Kill PAUL, beating That Bald Head, They was trying to Kill him. The army had to get in there to save him. They had beat him so bad, they to pick Him up and carry him.:eyes: The Roman Commander did not know who he was, and thought He was an Egyptian that had caused riots in another Provence and no come hear, The Roman Commander, didn't know what happen and could not get an answer from anybody, everybody had a story, Now here Paul right off he is not going to tell, The Roman Commander that He "Paul is a Roman",, Paul is going to Hold that Trump Card like He always do for the right time and then play it.:sob:

You see, there are so many ways you read the Bible guided By the "Parakletos" like for now as well have been reading The Acts of the Apostles, By staying in "his Character". just like the plays we played in in "grammar school" and "High School" and The Plays we Played in "Church" plays. Now we are in the Character of "Paul, "The character of The Saints do not want to be found out being with "PAUL" and "The Cult Bald headed animal sacrificing Jews" and The Regular Jews. and The Jews that do not know what is going on, they are just following the crowd. Then You Got "The Roman Commander" HE do not know what is going, he cannot get a straight answer from No Body, And The Soldiers do not know what to do, and they are Tearing "JERUSALEM Up" because of "PAUL" and Paul is walking around in Disguise, with a "BALD HEAD" trying to act like he something He ain't.:sob:

Have seen all this before, just by reading it, But this time "The PARAKLETOS" gave me "Living LIFE" into All of The Characters in "Play" at the same time. All of them and I could see their faces. I kept laughing this mornings as these scenes where talking place. Most of the people Rioting, Do Not Know Why They Are There , beating Paul Up, everybody got a 'story why they trying to kill him!. every got a "GOSPEL" and then, after Paul had Cool them down by speaking in Aramaic and giving his Testimony, and when he told about what God was doing with The "gentiles" they really going to kill him now, They kill for real now, and then The Roman Commander going have beaten with a whip, and Paul at the right, told that "Centurion" you mean you going to "whip" a Roman Citizen? Scared That "Centurion to death" retold The Commander, He is Roman! The Commander went Spoke to Paul with his chest all stuck out and Said, "How much do you pay for your citizenship for I paid A "HIGH PRICE" for Mind:sob: PaUL FIRED BACK, I HAVE NOT PAID FOR NOTHING, I was Born A roman, My daddy was Roman and My Granddaddy and His daddy for that Daddy!:sob: That Commander who once was "Slave" got Quiet. Paul pulled that Trump Card on Him.:pensive:
I really this morning, although I knew of this for man- years, But this Morning he blew fresh air on it.

Just read it, do not put nothing else in f it, it is a story of what the Apostles Did.l 'The Acts of The APOSTLES" that is all it is. they not did have a New Testament book. The only things the Apostles had was the Old Testament writings. and Look wrote the events of the Apostles in A.D. 60, no printing press.

This was a fun read. enjoy.
Acts 21: 17-40 NIV84

Paul’s Arrival at Jerusalem

17When we arrived at Jerusalem, the brothers and sisters received us warmly. 18The next day Paul and the rest of us went to see James, and all the elders were present. 19Paul greeted them and reported in detail what God had done among the Gentiles through his ministry.

20When they heard this, they praised God. Then they said to Paul: “You see, brother, how many thousands of Jews have believed, and all of them are zealous for the law. 21They have been informed that you teach all the Jews who live among the Gentiles to turn away from Moses, telling them not to circumcise their children or live according to our customs. 22What shall we do? They will certainly hear that you have come, 23so do what we tell you. There are four men with us who have made a vow. 24Take these men, join in their purification rites and pay their expenses, so that they can have their heads shaved. Then everyone will know there is no truth in these reports about you, but that you yourself are living in obedience to the law. 25As for the Gentile believers, we have written to them our decision that they should abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality.”

26The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. Then he went to the temple to give notice of the date when the days of purification would end and the offering would be made for each of them.

Paul Arrested

27When the seven days were nearly over, some Jews from the province of Asia saw Paul at the temple. They stirred up the whole crowd and seized him, 28shouting, “Fellow Israelites, help us! This is the man who teaches everyone everywhere against our people and our law and this place. And besides, he has brought Greeks into the temple and defiled this holy place.” 29(They had previously seen Trophimus the Ephesian in the city with Paul and assumed that Paul had brought him into the temple.)

30The whole city was aroused, and the people came running from all directions. Seizing Paul, they dragged him from the temple, and immediately the gates were shut. 31While they were trying to kill him, news reached the commander of the Roman troops that the whole city of Jerusalem was in an uproar. 32He at once took some officers and soldiers and ran down to the crowd. When the rioters saw the commander and his soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

33The commander came up and arrested him and ordered him to be bound with two chains. Then he asked who he was and what he had done. 34Some in the crowd shouted one thing and some another, and since the commander could not get at the truth because of the uproar, he ordered that Paul be taken into the barracks. 35When Paul reached the steps, the violence of the mob was so great he had to be carried by the soldiers. 36The crowd that followed kept shouting, “Get rid of him!”

Paul Speaks to the Crowd

37As the soldiers were about to take Paul into the barracks, he asked the commander, “May I say something to you?”

“Do you speak Greek?” he replied. 38“Aren’t you the Egyptian who started a revolt and led four thousand terrorists out into the wilderness some time ago?”

39Paul answered, “I am a Jew, from Tarsus in Cilicia, a citizen of no ordinary city. Please let me speak to the people.”

40After receiving the commander’s permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the crowd. When they were all silent, he said to them in Aramaic a :

Acts 22: 1-30 NIV84
Acts 22
New International Version Par ▾
1“Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense.”
2When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic, they became very quiet.
Then Paul said: 3“I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today. 4I persecuted the followers of this Way to their death, arresting both men and women and throwing them into prison, 5as the high priest and all the Council can themselves testify. I even obtained letters from them to their associates in Damascus, and went there to bring these people as prisoners to Jerusalem to be punished.
6“About noon as I came near Damascus, suddenly a bright light from heaven flashed around me. 7I fell to the ground and heard a voice say to me, ‘Saul! Saul! Why do you persecute me?’
8“ ‘Who are you, Lord?’ I asked.
“ ‘I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom you are persecuting,’ he replied. 9My companions saw the light, but they did not understand the voice of him who was speaking to me.
10“ ‘What shall I do, Lord?’ I asked.
“ ‘Get up,’ the Lord said, ‘and go into Damascus. There you will be told all that you have been assigned to do.’ 11My companions led me by the hand into Damascus, because the brilliance of the light had blinded me.
12“A man named Ananias came to see me. He was a devout observer of the law and highly respected by all the Jews living there. 13He stood beside me and said, ‘Brother Saul, receive your sight!’ And at that very moment I was able to see him.
14“Then he said: ‘The God of our ancestors has chosen you to know his will and to see the Righteous One and to hear words from his mouth. 15You will be his witness to all people of what you have seen and heard. 16And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.’
17“When I returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance 18and saw the Lord speaking to me. ‘Quick!’ he said. ‘Leave Jerusalem immediately, because the people here will not accept your testimony about me.’
19“ ‘Lord,’ I replied, ‘these people know that I went from one synagogue to another to imprison and beat those who believe in you. 20And when the blood of your martyr a Stephen was shed, I stood there giving my approval and guarding the clothes of those who were killing him.’
21“Then the Lord said to me, ‘Go; I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’ ”
Paul the Roman Citizen
22The crowd listened to Paul until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted, “Rid the earth of him! He’s not fit to live!”
23As they were shouting and throwing off their cloaks and flinging dust into the air, 24the commander ordered that Paul be taken into the barracks. He directed that he be flogged and interrogated in order to find out why the people were shouting at him like this. 25As they stretched him out to flog him, Paul said to the centurion standing there, “Is it legal for you to flog a Roman citizen who hasn’t even been found guilty?”
26When the centurion heard this, he went to the commander and reported it. “What are you going to do?” he asked. “This man is a Roman citizen.”
27The commander went to Paul and asked, “Tell me, are you a Roman citizen?”
“Yes, I am,” he answered.
28Then the commander said, “I had to pay a lot of money for my citizenship.”
“But I was born a citizen,” Paul replied.
29Those who were about to interrogate him withdrew immediately. The commander himself was alarmed when he realized that he had put Paul, a Roman citizen, in chains.
Paul Before the Sanhedrin
30The commander wanted to find out exactly why Paul was being accused by the Jews. So the next day he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the members of the Sanhedrin to assemble. Then he brought Paul and had him stand before them.

Hello @PloughBoy,

The only thing I have against reading the Scriptures by getting into the characters of the main players, is that we could impose upon the character our own preconceptions, emphasis and reactions, borne of our own life experience; which would be quite alien to the character under our scrutiny; for example I could not look through the eyes of Paul, and view the world as he did, for he was brought up as a Pharisee, with the rules and observances that govern their lives, even as to which shoe he put on first when dressing. He had sat at the feet of Gamaliel, and was therefore one who knew and observed the law which his nation was obliged to keep; whereas I am a Gentile and have never been under law. As a Jew living in Tarsus, he would also have known racial prejudice, although Roman by birth; that would also have coloured his thinking and his view of the world around him. These thoughts are based on mere human reasoning, but there is also the Divine. For Paul was a called Apostle of the risen Christ, who had been equipped for the work that the Lord had called him to perform, and that being his sole objective, would have been the greatest of all influences upon his thoughts and actions. I could not even begin to look through his eyes, and see as he saw.

Thank you

I am, going to step over into "Eternity" a little bit with you on this one, just a little bit. just my toe in the "pool'.
your quote:
"The only thing I have against reading the Scriptures by getting into the characters of the main players, is that we could impose upon the character our own preconceptions, emphasis and reactions, borne of our own life experience; which would be quite alien to the character under our scrutiny; for example I could not look through the eyes of Paul,"
[ ok, here we go, I like talking to you, you are a joy, Hold on, we are going to "hang guide" and look above the Shores of "The White Cliffs of Dover" with a "The Anthropomorphic" Panoramic view] so it would be nice, before you read the rest, go into prayer and ask "The LORD" if he would take you there, in where we are to go, and let you see what he wants you to see, and to lean not unto your own understanding, and take your time and enjoy the view that he present to you and not me. "That prayer cannot do any harm".

1. The unconverted cannot understand one thing I [we] speak about "The LORD' or "Our FATHER" they understand absolutely nothing, and I know it, they think they understand some of it, they understand nothing I speak concerning "His Christ or HIM". And I cannot convince them that they don't. I cannot convince The "nominal christians" that they do not understand nothing I say about "the "LORD" or "Our FATHER" and I know I cannot convince them that they don't understand One bit of what I say about him, especially when I [we] quote "the Bible" they hear, but only What "GOD" wants them to Hear. and That is "falsehood" and deception." They understand what He wants them to hear. I know this, and I cannot debate it, for it is "impossible" and I am "Commanded" To Not Give 'That which is Holy unto Dogs, or cast My Pearls to swine". and who determines that, at the proper time? "The Parakletos" who is a person, that lives in me [us] and is active. which takes a few years. to be taught by him. because we all, are "Stubborn and Obstinate" and must be broken like, a rose must be crush like the grape has to be step on or the seed has to die. before the fruit and the aroma with the fragrance blooming into Life, that which is eternal.:pensive:

2. And we have "The PARAKLETOS" that many after he has "entered their Body, have no Desirer to spend years in Learning what he is. But many think they know, They always say, the Holy Spirit, But they confess that he is The Third part of "The Triune GOD", and words spoken, can be cheap, but they do not Recognize "HIM" as "GOD" for He is no , less "GOD" Than The SON or THE FATHER" Just as many Christians deny "the Power of The SON and The POWER of The FATHER they Also Deny The Power of "The Parakletos", Neither do they Know Him, as "The Parakletos":pensive: and no use, even trying to explain to Most Christians, so we do not even try, we just let them go, as they please.:pensive: "The Adversary" is "Gifted by "GOD" To Deceive "The Whole WORLD" for He is The "god and The Prince of This WHOLE WORLD.

A lot of "Christians" lived their whole Life on earth, "Grieving Him" "The Parakletos" and they always have, since they have been, "Born of GOD" and they do not even Know, that they are, because they have always have, and they think that is "The WAY" so their whole christian life Style is Grieving the "Holy Spirit" of GOD.:pensive: For they have never known any other way, because most are like that. so they think all are like them. "The Majority rules":pensive:

NASB 1977 1 Corinthians 4:10
We are fools for Christ’s sake, but you are prudent in Christ; we are weak, but you are strong; you are distinguished, but we are without honor.:pensive:

3. "THE Parakletos" is "GOD" also. So we are not "the Children of the Flesh" but Of "The SPIRIT of THE LIVING GOD":pensive: "The GOD ALMIGHTY".
[those of us that are "Born not of the Flesh" but of GOD. We are not The children of The earth, But Of Heaven a "HEAVENLY BIRTH" a entirely different creature all together but trapped in a Earthly Body a human body. That is a real statement and not a figure of speech or of imagination. But you cannot hang around goats. for a many good reasons. that has been define Clearly in "The Old Testaments" "types and Shadows" of that which was to come.

And where "The Parakletos" leads us, we Follow, for he is "GOD" and He is beyond Power, So we do not read on our own, We follow, we do not take The "Initiative" to read as we please, we follow. So when I say in "Character" I do not mean in the FLESH, as The World sees In Characters in reading, "We are not like them we are not "HUMANS" any more , but trapped in " a HUMAN BODY" we are "NEW CREATURES" Heavenly Creatures! "BORN OF GOD" and we are "NOTHING Like Them " "The reason that many do not believe it and understand it, it is because "there are more of them than us" and they are the "Leaders of "The Institutional Churching systems, and we follow their teachings and programs and doctrines and do not believe the Bible" so if we do not want to Believe, Our Father turn us over to what we want to believe, and he lets us "Reap what we sow' "Now "condemnation" is not the same as "The Many Kinds Of Judgments Of "The ETERNAL GOD" The Parakletos explains all of this, and I am not a teacher, I point the "WAY"

Clarify the meaning when I state: "The ETERNAL GOD" so when one looks, how I wrote, as if that declaration is not to consider as I stated it, it has meaning in the English defining the intended text in which it is applied':pensive: and do not waste time trying to define it, "GOD" will define it for you.:) "sweet child of GOD" { I am not trying to make anyone believe nothing, I must keep it moving]

[The Son has "types of Judgments", "the Parakletos has types of judgments", The Father has types of "independent" types of judgments" and there is "the Combine Judgements of "The TRIUNE GOD".:pensive: {such knowledge is learn through many years on combine "TRUTHS" of GOD Build upon ANOTHER "TRUTH OF GOD." "TRUTH" builded upon "TRUTH" and That is How, It will , ever be, no half truths or man's truth, or what is true, But "The TRUTH of GOD" Builded UPON "The TRUTH of GOD" build ON "THE TRUTH of GOD" not mere truth build upon truth.:pensive:

4. Now going back to "the text" in question. "The PARAKLETOS" guides us in "The TEXT of Scripture" if we have learn to be Obedient. and not to lean on "our Own understanding" and have "Trusted Him" to guide us. for he is "GOD" 100%, as well, and when we read, it is not like another on Planet earth, Why, because he is Alive, and He takes some, not all, all cannot see this, because they do not even believe That he, is "GOD" and A person, Just as Much as "JESUS" who is, "The Christ of GOD". "if I do not go back and send Him he will not come":eyes:

So, when we follow, he takes us there, and The same "Sprit that is in them, is in us" they are not Dead! and that is within "The True CONGREGATION of GOD" and we have fellowship with them, even now. "One God" "One LORD" "ONE SPIRIT", So many want the fellowship of The Human church membership rather than The fellowship of "The Congregation of GOD" and "GOD The FATHER" grant them their wish. "now that does not mean they are damn, not so:eyes:. "Now there is no condemnation to those who are "
born from above'. {To clarify}. Which is the actual meaning of "to those who are in Christ Jesus" because The Church of man made and has there own private interpretations of the Bible TEXT and have glorified Their own way of Sanctification and The way of "Holiness" and the Body of Christ and that which means "To those who are in Christ" their own private manifestation of what It means in The Visible man made
truths.

5. And they do not believe That "The Parakletos" has The Power to instruct you and Take you back to the past, and take you into The LiFe that is Living, in "THE WORD of GOD" and Let you enter into "The SPIRIT of THE LIVING GOD", For they have never been There. and Seen the LIVING TRUE GOD, and The Character of "GOD" and HIS display into His own, throughout "HOLY SCRIPTURE" in "The FULLNESS of GOD" this is not of Human Characters This Is The Characters Of GOD and His Manifestation in His Own! For we all, are One and Always will be One, and not with those, that many are holding hands with, and having fellowship, as if they are one of us,:sob:

we are not like them and they do not know who we are, they know christians, churches, religious people, but they do not know who we are. They do not know or understand how we read or talk or understand and it is
impossible for them to have fellowship with us, for he created us before the world and all that is created, we were His, before the beginning of All creation, {Complete you are more than you realize}Than what the People of this world is.:pensive:
{and it is by grace and not of our selves} Chosen by him, you did nothing. your belief in Him, was a "gift" and not your own. :pensive:

Children of God
1Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because It Knew Him Not. 2Beloved, Now Are We The Sons Of God, and It Doth Not Yet Appear What We Shall Be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. 3And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure.

I am your Brother in Christ and you can feel that love, like never before and you cannot deny it, that I speak "The TRUTH' in GOD. and That channel is "The PARAKLETOS" of The LIVING GOD! "The Pneumatic":pensive: But This Light Has To Pierce The Night, The Darkness Is Thick and Deep. and this Light cannot reach the people of This WORLD! they cannot see the light, For they cannot see the Light of Christ. no matter how much we proclaim. But we are called to callout for only The "ELECT of GOD" who will hear and come to The LIGHT to Lead them Out of The Night.

Philippians 2 ASV
5Have this mind in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6who, existing in the form of God, counted not the being on an equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in the likeness of men; 8and being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, becoming obedient even unto death, yea, the death of the cross.

Acts 23: 1-10 NIV84

Let us pause and take a look at this Portion in "The ACTS of The Apostles" and look at this scene, between verses "1-10" and not forget, that who we are, in Him, and we have "The Mind of Christ" and must not dwell in the flesh, with that view point we must not neglect who we are, and what we are capable of by a Divine decree. And that Decree was given by "Our Father" not theirs but Ours! So that mind you have, has contain and will ever remind in You, So now Let GOD reach Back and bring to that "LIGHT" that had already revealed to you as we have been reading The Acts of the Apostle Paul. and the skills he have learn and been taught by GOD. So let us observe the Display and The Manifestation of the Man.

"When the True Man of "GOD" steps into a Room, if causes "A Storm", it is "Pneumatic", more Powerful, than mere words, for it is "the force, "The Catalyst Behind "The WORD" And that Catalyst is "GOD"!:pensive: And GOD, Commands The Storms, The Winds Blows How He Commands Them, the winds Does not Blow on its own, Even The winds obey's Him. You Got to Know, who GOD is.:pensive:
2 Corinthians 4 BSB

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day. 17For our light and momentary affliction is producing For Us An Eternal Glory That Is Far Beyond Comparison.18So We Fix Our Eyes Not On What Is Seen, But On What Is Unseen. For What Is Seen Is Temporary, But What Is Unseen Is Eternal.…":pensive:

The World And Nominal Christians Cannot See , What We See Or Hear What We Hear, Nor Can They See What Lies In the VERY ,"The Word Of God" That Is Right Before Their Face, WRITTEN in Black And White! even the very "Word of God" that they quote, the words that Flow out of their own mouths and enter their own ears, are nothing but a deception to their very minds.:pensive: For even "THE TRUTH" blinds them even More, The LIGHT only blinds them. and will never draw them, For This LIGHT, Turns, The Ungodly Away.:pensive:

Enjoyed your read; "True Child , of The LIVING GOD" and remember to Pray always before you read anything pertaining to "The WORD of The LIVING GOD",
for him to guide you and open your eyes to what He wants you to see and hear and not what you want to hear or see. Always without FAIL.:pensive:
Acts 23
New International VersionPar ▾
1Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, “My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day.” 2At this the high priest Ananias ordered those standing near Paul to strike him on the mouth. 3Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! You sit there to judge me according to the law, yet you yourself violate the law by commanding that I be struck!”
4Those who were standing near Paul said, “How dare you insult God’s high priest!”
5Paul replied, “Brothers, I did not realize [really] :eyes:that he was the high priest; for it is written: ‘Do not speak evil about the ruler of your people.’ a
6Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, “My brothers, I am a Pharisee, descended from Pharisees. I stand on trial because of the hope of the resurrection of the dead.7When he said this, a dispute broke out between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and The Assembly Was Divided. 8(The Sadducees say that there is no resurrection, and that there are neither angels nor spirits, but the Pharisees believe all these things.)
9THERE WAS A GREAT UPROAR, and Some Of The Teachers Of The Law Who Were Pharisees Stood Up And Argued Vigorously. “WE FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THIS MAN, They Said. “What If A Spirit Or An Angel Has Spoken To Him?” 10The Dispute Became So Violent That The Commander Was Afraid Paul Would Be Torn To Pieces By Them. He ordered the troops to go down and take him away from them by force and bring him into the barracks.

Acts 23: 11-22 NIV84
I did read this portion of Acts early this morning too. and I did get thoughts from verses 11 right away! It reminded me in my years in Christ. It might have been 1979, my 2nd. year in Christ and we had just had a new baby girl, and I had drifted off to sleep, with her beside me she is sleep too, and the radio was on, and this preacher was Preaching and I was in The Spirit. So after he Preached His Sermon. I just started reading as normal, beginning in the Book of "Isaiah" lying there in bed, and when I got to Charter "43" in the "NSRB" and begin reading Those Words, "The Anointing of GOD" poured on me like never before. I jump up, ran to my wife down stairs and Said LOOK at this! God is talking to me!!!!! and I thought, We are going to be so happy and My house and family was going to be so well blessed.:sob: A few days latter, ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE, they took, MY "WORKERS COMPENSATION" From me, My paycheck, All my Health benefits, no doctor benefits, couldn't work, in great pain, my wife turn her back on me, her mother talked about me like a dog. but my parents and Aunt help me pay rent and car payments, and food.:sob: all :sob:the christians and the church said I was doing something wrong and had sin in my life!:sob:

So that thought, came to me, this morning when I read that 11 verse in "Acts" 23:11"
I was reminded of:
ISAIAH 43 KJV

1But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob,
And He who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by your name;
You are Mine.
2When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Nor shall the flame scorch you.
3For I am the Lord your God,
The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;
I gave Egypt for your ransom,
Ethiopia and Seba in your place.
4Since you were precious in My sight,
You have been honored,
And I have loved you;
Therefore I will give men for you,:pensive:
And people for your life.
5Fear not, for I am with you;:eyes:
And He was, when everyone that it seems to know Christ ,turn their backs on me,
and those did not seem happy when "He brought me Out" ! For my ENEMIES Turn at the last Minute, Switch Sides and They Fought for me! Their lawyers turn and Fought for ME! And Gave me everything and plus more and they said they would send me to College and fully pay everything, New Bed, and pay what ever I needed for my family and all, They only ones that was not happy was my wife and my own lawyers and my wife's family! and plus I got a big Pay check and still had a Pension for ever! and they only thing I Wanted was my legal rights and nothing more! But the Lord had The "Philistines" fight for me and protected me from '"The Israelites"

Acts 23: 11-22 NIV

The Plot Against Paul

11But the following night the Lord stood by him and said, https://biblehub.com/nkjv/acts/23.htm#footnotesBe of good cheer, Paul; for as you have testified for Me in Jerusalem, so you must also bear witness at Rome.”

12And when it was day, some of the Jews banded together and bound themselves under an oath, saying that they would neither eat nor drink till they had killed Paul. 13Now there were more than forty who had formed this conspiracy. 14They came to the chief priests and elders, and said, “We have bound ourselves under a great oath that we will eat nothing until we have killed Paul. 15Now you, therefore, together with the council, suggest to the commander that he be brought down to you [c]tomorrow, as though you were going to make further inquiries concerning him; but we are ready to kill him before he comes near.”

16So when Paul’s sister’s son heard of their ambush, he went and entered the barracks and told Paul. 17Then Paul called one of the centurions to him and said, “Take this young man to the commander, for he has something to tell him.” 18So he took him and brought him to the commander and said, “Paul the prisoner called me to him and asked me to bring this young man to you. He has something to say to you.”

19Then the commander took him by the hand, went aside, and asked privately, “What is it that you have to tell me?”

20And he said, “The Jews have agreed to ask that you bring Paul down to the council tomorrow, as though they were going to inquire more fully about him. 21But do not yield to them, for more than forty of them lie in wait for him, men who have bound themselves by an oath that they will neither eat nor drink till they have killed him; and now they are ready, waiting for the promise from you.”

22So the commander let the young man depart, and commanded him, “Tell no one that you have revealed these things to me.”
