Light at the End of the Tunnel - July 31, 2006
Recently I walked through a tunnel that had been constructed for joggers and golf carts. As I stood on one side, I was reminded of the expression "there is light at the end of the tunnel." Most people have had at least one "tunnel" encounter in their lifetime. This is a period of time when your world seems so dark, bleak, dismal and foreboding. You grope around and function as well as possible, but when you are working in the dark, it is hard to see where you are going. If you are fortunate, you basically just function. If not, hospitalization may be necessary.
There have been three tunnel periods in my life, and each one was difficult for me. I functioned as I needed to, but felt like I was in a daze most of the time. My prayer partners encouraged me, fed our family, and kept the outpouring of love flowing over us during the difficult days. In each experience I did come to the light on the other side of the tunnel. God used each experience to help me grow. I have had a renewed appreciation for life, friends, and the never ending love of God from each of these times of trials.
I know, and knew God was with me in the darkness, but I was too numb to experience it. I am so thankful for His love which He sent my way in so many different forms. He promised in His Word that He would never leave or forsake us; and I am sure this is the Truth. Grasp onto this truth when tunnel times hit your life!
