love and forgive?

I am a very loving and forgiving person.
And I am because it's what God has called us all to do.
But my boyfriend told me today at lunch, that I was
going to far. Is it possible to forgive and love too much??
For example, my friend Aidan is always lying, and always being
a jerk, but I forgive him, and I act like nothing happened around him.
He says there is a point where I have to let him go...
But is that what Jesus would do? Would He give up on Aidan?
I dont think Jesus would, and so I don't ignore Aidan, and I don't
say get out of my life. But is there really a point where
i must tell him so? Im caught between, bad people ruin good morals, and, Jesus would never leave nor forsake. I don't know when to do what. Any advice in this? :(

Dear Dannibear,

Jesus forgives everyone. But, before He forgives us, He wants us to confess our sins, feel remourse and atone for what we have done. He wants ous to be sincerely sad because we've hurt him.

I got the impression that your friend is not sad about his wrongdoings. By ignoring the fact that he is a liar and a 'jerk', you do not actually forgive him; in fact, you encourage his behaviour. You need to talk to your friend- be open, honest and tactful. The Holy Ghost will put the right words into your mouth.

If your friend does not change his behaviour, you need to step aside from him for a while. Help him if he needs help, support him, but do not support his sins. If he still continues being a jerk, pray for him, but don't let him use you.

Jesus forgives to those who want to be forgiven. Does your friend want you to forgive him?

well said petrasar

...one be perceived as a "very loving and forgiving person" ...but be guilty of wanting to be liked more than we want God to be honored... the root of that motive is pride, and prides love is a self centered love...its says I must be loved, even if I have to lie by my silence.

Gods is a two fold command...speak the truth/ in love

as to when to stop doing one thing, and start doing another.
