You often hear some Christians say we are made in the image of God. But are we?
Gen 1:27; God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
Well there we are, it says we are created in God's image right here. Is that really what it says?
Gen 5:1; This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day when God created man, He made him in the likeness of God.
Gen 5:2; He created them male and female, and He blessed them and named them Man in the day when they were created.
Gen 5:3; When Adam had lived one hundred and thirty years, he became the father of a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and named him Seth.
Gen 5:4; Then the days of Adam after he became the father of Seth were eight hundred years, and he had other sons and daughters.
It says in verse 1 here that "in the day when God created man", He made him in the likeness of God. OK, so Adam and Eve were made in the image of God. I don't have a problem with that.
But by the time we get down to verse 3 here it says..... Adam became the father of a son.. "in his own likeness". This was Seth. If we read all the way down to verse 32, we see that
Noah came from the lineage of Seth. So while Adam was made in God's image, the rest of mankind was made in Adam's image, starting with Seth.. continuing through Noah.
And we are all descendants of Noah.
Another thought that comes to mind here.
2Cor 3:18; But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.
If we are already in the image of God, then why do we need to be "transformed" into the image of God?
