Making peace With God

Just as the passing of one year marks the entrance into a new one, so does the death to self reveal the beginning of true life in Christ. One must, by very nature of the fact that we only have two hands, release their grip on something in order to take hold of something new. In other words, "The old must pass away for the new to come." In truth, as I reminisce over the past year, I can't help but think about what it means to be at 'peace' with God. If there ever is a time to consider your ways and make new commitments concerning your relationship with Almighty God, it is most certainly during this slight pause just after Christmas and New Years. Having just been reminded of God's infinite love for us, and facing a new year in which to grow in His grace, this is the moment for sober soul searching! Are you at peace with God?

Scripture teaches that Jesus came to become our 'peace offering' that we might be reconciled through Him to God. To ever even begin the process of being at peace with God, one must first present themselves to God not on their own merits, but on the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. But alas, for us mortals, this peace with God can seem to be so fleeting. While on earth there are so many detours that derail us from this path of peace with God. We fail to 'stay under the shadow of His wings' and let things get in the way of our relationship with Him. Be honest and introspect for a moment... what are those things that disrupt your harmony with God? Call them what you like: sins, weights, idols, distractions - it matters not - even good things you may be able to justify. If these thoughts, actions, attitudes, or habits disrupt your peace with God, then they must go! There will never be lasting peace until we are willing to remove anything that adversely affects our relationship with our Heavenly Father. As we begin the New Year, let's 'clean our house' with fervor. If we all deal ruthlessly with those things in our lives that keep us from the peace God has planned for us, no matter what the cost, no matter what the pain, no matter what the loss, then we will truly find "Peace not as the world gives", and "Peace that passes all understanding." Remember the short but true little saying - "Where there is NO GOD there is NO PEACE, but where you KNOW GOD then you KNOW PEACE." God be with you all...
