Sackcloth is simply what it says. Clothes, robe, dress, made out of sacks that once held flour or some kind of food. In the appalachian area where I live, it was common 80 years ago that people would buy flour and sugar in sacks and then when empty, they would make clothes out of them, because they were too poor to buy clothes. So sackcloth is simply really cheaply made clothing, for those too poor to buy clothes from a clothing store. It wasnt really that different from back then, for the poor are always with us. Now people do it, mainly because its in scripture, and its harder to find the sacks of food thats used for them. Mayhaps more people will dress thusly and it will be more common, preaching the word of God.
