Marie was a World War 2 war refugee who came to live with my family when I was a baby. She had a son in a Russian concentration camp who died there and a son who came with her named Siggfried.
Another food that Marie made for us which I really liked was called speck perogun. I don't know the correct spelling.
Marie would fry ham and bacon and then chop it up into very small pieces.
She would mix the the ham and bacon bits in a chewy bread dough and bake it.
A man could make a meal on Marie's speck perogun!
The memory makes my mouth water.
Let me know if you try it and like it.
