Mediums

Hello.

I feel troubled on this subject as I have a couple of friends who consult mediums and believe in what they are told. Some of the things they hear are highly accurate.

They know that I feel all things like this are bad, and I think they feel I'm too extreme in my reactions to it. I can't help but feel something evil is feeding the medium the answers that people want to hear, and don't believe that when anyone dies, they have any contact with us on earth afterwards.

I'd appreciate any comments on this matter.

Mediums are indeed talked about in the OT. So if your friends are Christians you could simply show them:

Leviticus 19:31: "Do not turn to mediums or spiritists; do not seek them out to be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God."

Dueteronomy 18:11-12 "or one who casts a spell, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For whoever does these things is detestable to the Lord; ..."

The "power" a medium has can be very real, but the source is a demon. Demons can know things that we do not, they are indeed very clever. I had a close friend who used to see mediums regularly who stopped when I showed her those verses.

So my advise is show them that God says a person who does this is "detestable to the Lord.", just show them the verses. Many people simply don't know the bible says don't do that. Hope that helps some :X

Thank you for the reply jculver. That re-affirms my thoughts, but they are not Christians and have not read the Bible. I guess I'm not sure of what approach to tell them it's wrong, as they probably think I'm crazy enough already!

Saying that, one of them has been coming along to Alpha with me, so hopefully she will see that it is not the answer.

Thats cool I have seen Alpha advertised, but never attended. It should be very good for her.

I don't know that you should focus on this issue with your other friends at this time. The objective is to get your friends saved first, then their sins will go away So don't worry about specific sins, worry about their salvation. They are not under God's law, so they will not listen to it until they are.

My advise is start strategizing on how to get them saved: like you are doing by bringing your friend to alpha. Once they get saved then the rest will fall into place. Pray for them continuously.

Incidentally, I went home last night and opened my Bible, and there was Isaiah 8:20 looking straight at me, talking about mediums! :star:

Almost funny how that works sometimes It seems like when I study something from my bible it almost always comes up at least twice more that week or the next. I hope your friends see soon so they can enjoy even the little gifts that make Christians smile

i use to love mediums and spend so much money every time i went to see one ,what a scam

Afriend of mine was told that she should leave her current relationship with her partner of five years, as her soul mate would come to her very soon,
She did and along came another man within two weeks ,however he was far from her soulmate ,lets just say he was a living nightmare ,she regrets her actions now but it is too late to repair the damage

This is just one example how dangerous they can be ,

I long time ago I went to a medium. It was basic curiousity and I went with an open mind. This medium, a woman, was religious and before the session she said the Hail Mary......which really threw me off because I didn't know any christian-like things would happen in this situation.

She didn't give me huge advice about what will or will not happen. I didn't believe most of what she said, although she stunned me with some stuff that makes me believe she does have a gift.

She told me that she saw people who are dead now that are watching over me. One woman she desribed perfectly as my grandmother. I've known this already and didn't need the medium to tell me because I feel my grandmother near me. One phrase she said always stays in my mind: To be forewarned is to be forearmed. Our whole session was recorded and I still have the tape.

Jculver is good to point out those pieces in the bible that say it's wrong: "do not turn to mediums or spirits" It is wrong and I am sorry I did it. Nothing bad or good came from this, but I am very sorry to God that I did it.

Speaking to Devils can never be good. These people should be prayed for and you may want to let your friends know exactly what it is what you are dealing with. They don't want to give demons a window into their bodies. People seem to forget that demon possetion is still very real. I think it would be interesting to go to a meeting like that in Jesus name. It will become very clear the spirits are not good. Don't do that I was just thinking outloud.

If you open the door to any spirit other than the Holy Spirit you are inviting trouble. Posession is a real posibility and do you realy want the devil inside your head?
Trust in the Lord and ask the Holy Spirit to come into your life and take over, but never seek other spirits.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if there were references to this in the NT as well.

gladstone, if it troubles you, then you need to find some appropriate way of sharing this with your friends. Remember that your life must also abide by the scriptures, or your witness is ineffective. If your friends see a life lived for Christ, then what you say will have that much more cred than if you just speak. Just a thought, take it or leave it.

Even though your friends may scorn you or even become angry, I believe you should warn them that seeing mediums is dangerous. If you feel led, use a scripture, so that they know what the bible says.

If they go ahead and see the medium, they will still remember that you warned them. They will see God in this in the end, because they will be hurt by what the medium says and does in the end, and will know that God is truth.

You are a real friend by being concerned for your friends. God bless you, dear young lady.
