But Micaiah replied, "If you return safely, it will mean that the LORD has not spoken through me!" Then he added to those standing around, "Everyone mark my words!" 1 Kings 22:28 NLT

Micaiah was a true prophet, meaning he spoke what God told him to speak. But other men who were also called prophets were comfortable telling the king what he wanted to hear. They stopped listening to God. That left Micaiah as one small reef of truth in a sea of lies.

How hard would it be to stand when everyone else sits, go when everyone else stays, and tell the truth when everyone else is comfortable swapping lies? This is the world Micaiah lived in, the people he lived with, and the struggle to keep speaking God words when so many other voices wanted him to say something else.

You have faced this—or you will face it—and that’s when you’ll have to make the same choice Micaiah had to make. You can say what’s easy, knowing it lacks God’s truth, or you’ll say something truthful, knowing that your words may be rejected and you could be ridiculed. Consider your choice—carefully.

Prayer: May truth find a home in my heart and on my lips, Father. Give me words to say and courage to say them. Give my heart the space to hide Your words and a mind willing to retrieve what the heart stores for use in each conversation I will ever have.
