Michael Jackson, King of Pop, Dead at 50

International Pop Icon Dies After Suffering Cardiac Arrest in Los Angeles

By SHEILA MARIKAR and EMILY FRIEDMAN

Michael Jackson, the self-anointed "King of Pop" who revolutionized music but whose legacy was marred by allegations of child molestation and bizarre behavior, died after suffering cardiac arrest Thursday. He was 50 years old.

The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to Jackson's residence at 12:26 p.m. P.T., according to the Los Angeles Times. Paramedics performed CPR on Jackson, who was not breathing when they arrived at his home. He was rushed to LA Medical Center, just six miles from his home.

"For a long time he was unquestionably the most famous person on the planet," Jed Hilly, the executive director of the Americana Music Assocation, told ABCNews.com.

Watch "The Life and Death of Michael Jackson" on a special edition of "20/20" TONIGHT at 9 p.m. ET.

Chris Connelly, an ABC News contributor, was one of the last people to interview Jackson, and said today that the pop star was "determined to convey that he had greater things ahead of him."

"The word he spoke with the greatest emphasis was the 'More!' that he exclaimed when I asked if he could still do all his famous moves and hit all those notes at the age of 50," said Connelly of his August 2008 phone interview with Jackson.

Connelly asked Jackson if he had received his AARP membership, a question that garnered a laugh from the star.

"In an all-too-short life that in so many ways was filled with enigmatic emotions, or troubling ones, his laugh sounded fresh, clear and altogether genuine," said Connelly. "If only there had been more of those."

Jackson's death came less than a month before the start of a scheduled series of so-called comeback concerts. From July 13 to March 6, 2010, Jackson was scheduled to perform 50 sold-out concerts at London's O2 Arena.

Jackson is survived by his three children, Prince Michael I, Paris and Prince Michael II.

Fans last heard from Jackson during a press conference in London last March, where he assured about 2,000 fans that his upcoming concert would be his "final curtain call."

"I just want to say that these will be my final show performances in London," he said to the screaming crowd. "This will be it. When I say this is it, this will be it."

Death is in the air. Farrah Fawcett died today. See: R.I.P. Farrah Fawcett: the Angel who gave men the most devilish thoughts Michael Jackson died today, too. He was 50.

What's that old saying? Something about deaths coming in groups of three. Who else we might wonder?

Question: are you afraid to die?

Lots of folks are. Yet, death is an inevitable outcome to the living. Only a couple folks didn't have to experience death, Enoch and Elijah. Makes me wish my name were Elliot or Elton if a name beginning with "E" has anything to with it. It doesn't.

How do we prepare for death?

Good works? Just being good people and hoping the big record keeper in the sky finds that the good ultimately outweighs the bad? It doesn't work like that either?

In short - there is nothing we can do to earn a place in Heaven. If you don't believe in heaven, you can stop reading now. You can stop reading CWE, too because I am a Bible believer who thinks there is one Creator who loves us so much he gave his son to die for us. And, if we believe that, we are on our way in the right direction.

Still - It is by grace we are saved through faith, it is a gift of God. Ephesians 2:8

And to be sure, the Creator wants everyone to receive this gift and he will not force it on anyone. It's there for the taking.

RIP Michael Jackson.

I posted the above two news articles for a few reasons. One, yes I am/was a fan of M.J. I also feel very sorry for what the media did to him over the many years he entertained the world. I am sad that true artists, entertainers do not come like him anymore. At least in my opinion. I also do not care about his 'oddities' nor believe the scandal he went through in the early 90's. He was a genuine true artist, a great entertainer like no other. They don't come like this any more.

Just keep something important in thought...

There are far many Christian missionaries who risk their lives in dangerous parts of the world, get martyred for sending out the good news to others at the expense of their own life. They get no attention, no earthly reward and that is perfectly ok because their reward is in Heaven. So keep that in mind. Don't put man on a pedestal more than he is worth.

We are all sinners no matter what awards and cheers you get from this world.

R.I.P., Michael.

He was a true artist. No question about it. None.

The scandal involving boys.. stands. And 3 million and 20 million dollars will
later be revealed for what they were meant to be. That is certain.

Death a stepping stone ?

In the last ten years I have been clinically dead two different times. The first time was in a ambulance on the way to Fort Smith Hospital in Arkansas, I was at a revival in Hatfield, AK. After carrying my Cross through the town, I collapsed, this was my forth out of eight heart attacks, they put two stents in.They showed my wife and the pastor what had happened on the scope when they tried to put the first stent in my heart, it wouldn't go where they wanted it to, my wife said that suddenly it look like the finger of God drew an opening on the scope and the doctors told her it was the strangest thing they ever saw. When she told them that God had Lent a helping hand, they explained that they must have unblocked one of the passage ways. She said that they didn't believe God had anything to do with it, but they were about to be proofed wrong.

The second time was three days later. I was in the ER of the same hospital and the doctor went out to tell my wife that I was dead. According to Pastor Tony Busby of the Hatfield Assembly of God Church the story goes like this: After the two doctors, who thought they were the healing specialists instead of God, came up to Sister Sandy and told her that her husband was dead and they were sorry. She turned to them, without shedding a tear or without showing any of the emotions associated with hearing about someone very close to you being dead, she politely told them my "Bibleman", (her nickname for me), is not dead because I know God is not done with him yet! She then raised her voice, shouting loudly and said "Satan, you have been trying to stop him for a long time, what makes you think this time is any different?" Pastor Tony said that Sandy then went over to Carolette, (pastors wife), grabbed her hand and the pastor's hand and began to pray these exact words; " God I know personally all the things You asked him to do, some were unpleasant, some friends left him because he told them what You told him to say. Now I am praying to you as my "Bibleman" would pray to you when the devil wants to cause trouble "Lord here I am and as always the Holy Spirit is with me. I ask that you send Archangel Micheal to stand with us and we will fight Satan and all his demons for how ever long it takes to defeat him in this battle, in this world. I have the Armour of God and the Sword of the Spirit, spoken to us by Paul in Ephesians, and with Christ in my heart, I will lay the victory at your feet as your humble servant!" Before Sister Sandy got through with her prayer, a loud "Hey IT"S HOLY GHOST TIME" came from the ER, nurse's and doctors went running into the room and there sitting on the table with a glow all around him was Brother Mark and he told the little crowd that had gathered " I ain't dead yet Devil, when someone said you were clinically dead for about two minutes, Brother Mark looked straight at the two doctors and said "sometimes God uses His people to show others who the real God is."

These are not my words, these are the words of Pastor Tony Busby off a tape of a revival service Feb. 2000. I did not put this up there to pat my self on the back, I wrote it to show that Satan does not have the power to take one of God's chosen. I do not mean that I am the only chosen one, everyone who believes in John 3:16 and excepts it in their heart is God's chosen one. As chosen people of God, we do not have to fear death, for Christ defeated death at the Cross. Besides who wouldn't want to be first in Heaven; " for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep,(died), in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive, and remain until the coming of the Lord, shall not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trumpet of God; and the dead in Christ shall rise first. (I Thessalonians 4: 14-16). NASB

So don't fret death because the party's hardy in Heaven!

MJ was a magnificent artist. He touch millions of millions people around the world. His scandal was false. I think they just bring him in the news to create revenue and have people talking about him because he is loved by everyone.(young or old)

I was wondering if you saw anything when you were dead like others that have reportedly died and came back? Some say they saw a tunnel etc...

Sorry for those who likes of this artist. He was an amazing artist. But he is the image of the man without God, tormented, empty, that looked in the fame, money and sucess the rason of his life. Beyond of the scandals involving kids.
However, we can not say if he was or not saved for Christ at the moment of his death, because this moment is only, reserved just between God and the man.
Sincerely, I hope him has had time to repent and confess his sins!
God bless all!

"What shall it profit....if a man gain the whole world and lose his own
soul.......or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul" (Jesus)

I know very little about this celebrity...his c.d. was brought and played in my home........"does it matter if you are black or white"
I liked the message of the song because skin colour does not matter....No No

What matters is are we ingesting Jesus, praying, praising, giving thanks, magnifying His great Name.......This is the way to heaven..............and the only way

Jesus said he that eateth of me shall never hunger, and he that drinketh of me shall never thirst.

Should we be afraid to die? Not a saint, im afraid of dying as in pain, leaving behind loved ones, or suffering, but not death.

The lord has reminded me at times when a person dies, that death is not a victory for me or any saint, as we have obeyed the gospel of Christ.

Rom 7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?
Rom 7:25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

1Co 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1Co 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
1Co 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
1Co 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

May Jackson find mercy on the day of his judgement...

God bless all...

Should we be afraid to die?

"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain."

This is my life verse, and the truth is there are moments I am excited to die... but my half-heartedness always draws back to the ministry... on what can I do more for Him while I am on earth.

I used to play Micheal Jackson's "Heal the world" song like 10 times everymorning when I was a kid. I never really realized how much that song meant. But I was thankful that he did that song. As a person I see MJ's life as an example of people's unsatisfaction, wants and desires, yet wanting more after getting it.

Seriously when I look into his face I could not see the black person he was, :magnify:(i mean look at his hand, even fairer than mine). I still dont full understand why he changed himself so bad. :disagree:Maybe there was a time that he said to himself that he will get back to the whites... by looking like them so that no one could degrade him... well I dont wanna roam into racism, but I want to concentrate on how he amazingly get everything he wanted physically and materially in life.

And clinging a question, has he had really been happy and had a peace of mind?

"For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

-Matthew 6:21

"Only in Jesus could we really find the definition of peace.."

No I did not see anything when I died, not saying others didn't, but I believe God already knew it wasn't my time. As my wife said I was not dead because God wasn't done with me yet. With all the things I've done in God's name and the blessings I've received since than, are evidence in my heart, this is true. Satan is still trying to keep me from doing God's work, he even tried to keep me in a wheelchair for two and half years; he lost those battles too. I will not stop defending the true Christian way of life and I will not stop fighting for those who do not know Jesus, know matter what Satan throws In my way.

The devil may have a roar of a lion to some people, but to me he is nothing more than an annoying pip-squeak (the little squeaker that is in toys like the rubber duck), and he can be removed from your life!!!

Michael Jackson was a tortured soul, trying to find happiness in all the wrong things. I too enjoyed his music but had trouble watching what he did on stage in the latter years. It seemed perverted.

He had a lot of talent for sure. He said he had some condition where his skin turned white. He said he didn't take anything to turn it that way. I don't know if this was true or not but all his surgery's on his face lead me to believe he was not comfortable with his race. I especially liked his early songs with his family. He was amazing as a child singing sensation.

Death probably came to him unexpectantly because he said he would do one more performance. This is why we all need to be ready and not think, oh well, I can accept Christ later on my deathbed. We never know when it will happen.

Im not afraid of death, just do not like the thought of trying to breathe and not being able to, as in last breaths of life. So death is nothing to be feared if you know where you are going. Dying is harder to face than death. But we have the Lord to lean on as in any difficult situation.

Christians shouldnt be jubialating and reminicing on the past glories of the like of this Idol character Mj,instead Christians should learn one simple lesson what does a man proffit if he gains the the whole world but lose his soul.
To point to the the vanity and foolishness caused by the lust of this world should be the only reason why christians should take up the Mj topic.

Bringing up his worldly fame is idolatry and shames all the other past stands some of you have made concerning rightiousnes, and things that are worthy to be comendable and worth repeating, but Mj is not one of those things worthy to be memorialized in these postings.Let the world woship him and his image and let the world celebrate this man but as for me and my house we will not add on to the glories and celebrations the world is doing Mj.Think on these things,Philippians 4:8-9. And not what Mj did.

Ephesians 5:10-13.

remenising on the past glories of the like of this Idol character Mj,instead Christians should learn one simple lesson what does a man proffit if he gains the the whole world but lose his soul.
To point to the the vanity and foolishness caused by the lust of this world should be the only reason why christians should take up the Mj topic.

Bringing up his worldly fame is idolatry and shames all the other past stands some of you have made concerning rightiousnes, and things that are worthy to be comendable and worth repeating, but Mj is not one of those things worthy to be memorialized in these postings.Let the world woship him and his image and let the world celebrate this man but as for me and my house we will not add on to the glories and celebrations the world is doing Mj.Think on thiese things,Philippians 4:8-9. And not what Mj did.

Ephesians 5:10-13.

Who are you to put down anyone because they mention MJ in this thread? I started this thread because I am a fan of his music. Is that a sin? Does that make me suddenly worldly? Who are you to judge anyone, even MJ himself?

Just because someone likes an artist's music and pays respect after his or her death, does not make that person an idolater. Get your facts straight before passing judgment on people the way you did. If your unbelieving family member passed away, would you still not attend their funeral?

I posted this thread with two articles. Did you read them both and figure out why I posted both articles, one by a Christian news author?

I'm baffled you even have the audacity to put everyone down with your comments.

We have all been fans once in a while or two, that doesnt mean we're worshipping them, but its a sign of appreciation of the things they do. In MJ's case, his music. I admit that when I first heard the news about his death i was pessimistic about it too.. thinking this is not all important. Im a fan of MJ too, but not that big one. Yet after seeing a lot of tributes to him and the fact that his contribution in music over shadows all those negative issues about him, and most of all seeing how much some people especially big artist grieved about his departure. I realize, who are we really to judge him, I was not with him every single day and even if I am, I cant still judge him. He was indeed the greatest entertainer that ever lived, he wasnt born knowing how to dance and moonwalk, he worked hard on it. So hard, it just shows on his performnces. And I think he deserves the respect. There is never gonna be another him. ='(

My heart certainly goes out to MJ, Only God alone knows what went on in his heart on his death bed. But now where ever MJ may be, all is revealed, he now knows the truth one way or another, he knows the truth.

Lord please send ministering angels to the rest of his family in Jesus name.

Im a huge fan of Michael Jackson i always have been. His music is amazing the man was and through his music still is a genuis.

As reguards to his personal life, i never really paid much attention, the media feeds anyone who will listen a whole lot of rubbish, in my eyes they do there very best to infect you in anyway, shape or form they can.

We are all sinners, not one of us is better than the other. Instead of trying to pick out the bad why not just look at the good and see Michael Jackson reguardless of his sins left the world with the gift of his music.

God Bless and Much Love All

Does one have to have celebrity status or be a judge in the supreme court to call something for what it is?

Mj was of the world and lived for the world and died without Jesus.
If im wrong for making this judgement ,then why are you right when judging people's religious beliefs, and those who you have judged by declairing their beliefs unbiblical?

with this Im not trying to say you were wrong Im just saying Im exercising the same freedome you your self enjoy.

If all of you fans of Mj desire to honor him thats your choice but let's be fair and balanced here and realize and see the reality of this that we have all made our judgements, some of you have already declared Mj innocent of all those charges of molestation, when none of you were there, and none of you have any evidence to exonorate Mj.

We must judge between rigth and wrong, good and evil, true and false.

Mj was an entertainer, christianity is not a reality show you could tun off and on at will,Christians are to be the light of the world and not just another media outlet glorifying deprived and delutional entertainers.

carlos marquez allow me too be so honest or as you put it Exercising My Freedom, the moment i seen this thread the first thing that popped into my mind was "we will surely have one member here who will use this thread to play debate" and congradulations Your That Member.

Now i have no doubt you will come back with a wonderful worded response. I look forward to reading it.

God Bless

You need to stop talking while you're at it. You come across contradicting and judgmental. Lose your pride already. If anyone is delusional is you. Christ did not teach to pass judgment on others. He taught forgiveness, love, humility. Everything opposite of what you display here. No one asked for your opinion about MJ fans or what they should or should not do. So spare us your holier than though speech.

Mj was of the world and lived for the world and died without Jesus.

You just got your account closed, congratulations. This was the icing on the cake to seal your obvious judgmental, 'know-it-all' attitude. Who are YOU to even dare say whether or not MJ was not saved at the last minute of his life? Did you forget the thief on the Cross? You hypocrite, you said this too?
none of you were there, and none of you have any evidence to exonorate Mj.

Hypocrite. Were you there at his side when he was dying to see if he accepted Christ or not?
