Mount Zion and the New Jerusalem

It seems there is always a lot of eschatology discussion here on TalkJesus.
A lot of it seems to center around the tribulation, the millennial reign, and the beast. So... since there are already plenty of
threads about those things... this thread is about the age after that.

What happens after the millennial reign? Well yes, Satan gets thrown into the Lake of Fire, but that's not what I'm talking about
here. What happens to Christians? People left on the Earth?

A few people try to spiritualize these things and say Jesus returning is only spitiritual or it's already happened.
But there are over a dozen reason that can't be true.

I want to start by talking about Zion or Mount Zion as it may be. Mount Zion is a physical place near Jerusalem.
It's first mentioned in 2Sam 5:7; but it's mention over 150 times in the Bible.

The Bible says... this is will the Lord will reign from. Mount Zion. The very throne room of God will be there.

Psa 9:11; Sing praises to the LORD, who dwells in Zion; Declare among the peoples His deeds.
Psa 84:7; They go from strength to strength, Every one of them appears before God in Zion.
Psa 87:2; The LORD loves the gates of Zion More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.
Psa 132:13; For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation.
Isa 2:3; And many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; That He may teach us concerning His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For the law will go forth from Zion And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
Isa 8:18; Behold, I and the children whom the LORD has given me are for signs and wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwells on Mount Zion.
Isa 18:7; At that time a gift of homage will be brought to the LORD of hosts From a people tall and smooth, Even from a people feared far and wide, A powerful and oppressive nation, Whose land the rivers divide—To the place of the name of the LORD of hosts, even Mount Zion.
Jer 31:6; "For there will be a day when watchmen On the hills of Ephraim call out, 'Arise, and let us go up to Zion, To the LORD our God.'"
Joel 3:17; Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, Dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain. So Jerusalem will be holy, And strangers will pass through it no more.
Joel 3:21; And I will avenge their blood which I have not avenged, For the LORD dwells in Zion.
Micah 4:7; "I will make the lame a remnant And the outcasts a strong nation, And the LORD will reign over them in Mount Zion From now on and forever.
Zech 2:10; "Sing for joy and be glad, O daughter of Zion; for behold I am coming and I will dwell in your midst," declares the LORD.
Zech 8:3; "Thus says the LORD, 'I will return to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. Then Jerusalem will be called the City of Truth, and the mountain of the LORD of hosts will be called the Holy Mountain.'

There are many more verses similar to these, but the idea is... God reigns from mount Zion.

Isa 24:23; Then the moon will be abashed and the sun ashamed, For the LORD of hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, And His glory will be before His elders.

This verse reminds me of the New Jerusalem in Revelation 21.

Rev 21:23; And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Rev 22:5; And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.

When Jesus returns with the armies of Heaven, could mount Zion be the place?

Isa 31:4; For thus says the LORD to me, "As the lion or the young lion growls over his prey, Against which a band of shepherds is called out, And he will not be terrified at their voice nor disturbed at their noise, So will the LORD of hosts come down to wage war on Mount Zion and on its hill."

This remind me of...
Rev 19:11; And I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse, and He who sat on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and wages war.

We also have...
Micah 4:2; Many nations will come and say, "Come and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD And to the house of the God of Jacob, That He may teach us about His ways And that we may walk in His paths." For from Zion will go forth the law, Even the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Rev 21:24; The nations will walk by its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.
Rev 21:25; In the daytime (for there will be no night there) its gates will never be closed;
Rev 21:26; and they will bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it;

... so then, what does all this have to do with eschatology and the age after the millennial reign?

Rev 21:1; Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away, and there is no longer any sea.
Rev 21:2; And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, made ready as a bride adorned for her husband.
Rev 21:3; And I heard a loud voice from the throne, saying, "Behold, the tabernacle of God is among men, and He will dwell among them, and they shall be His people, and God Himself will be among them,
Rev 21:4; and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away."
Rev 21:5; And He who sits on the throne said, "Behold, I am making all things new." And He *said, "Write, for these words are faithful and true."
Rev 21:6; Then He said to me, "It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give to the one who thirsts from the spring of the water of life without cost.

So eventually, one day the current heaven and earth will be done away with, and there will be a new heaven and a new earth. God will come here and reign here.
This is all after the tribulation and the millennial reign. So here we see the attributes of the New Jerusalem.

Rev 21:10; And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,
Rev 21:11; having the glory of God. Her brilliance was like a very costly stone, as a stone of crystal-clear jasper.
Rev 21:12; It had a great and high wall, with twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels; and names were written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the sons of Israel.
Rev 21:13; There were three gates on the east and three gates on the north and three gates on the south and three gates on the west.
Rev 21:14; And the wall of the city had twelve foundation stones, and on them were the twelve names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
Rev 21:15; The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod to measure the city, and its gates and its wall.
Rev 21:16; The city is laid out as a square, and its length is as great as the width; and he measured the city with the rod, fifteen hundred miles; its length and width and height are equal.

So this city is 1500 miles long, 1500 miles wide, and 1500 miles tall. This city would cover more than half of the continental United States, or more than half of Australia.
It would cover almost all of Europe. But... it is 1500 miles tall!! To put that in perspective, The tallest object currently on the Earth is Mt Everest at a measly 5.5 miles ( 8.8 kilometers ).
So where does this city that is 2400 kilometers long and 2400 kilometers wide.. ( not to mention 2400 kilometers tall ) sit?

I have seen various drawings and paintings of what people think the New Jerusalem will look like. A quick google search returns a dozen different pictures.
Some of them make it look like a square cube. Like the Borg cube from Star Trek. But others imagine it being more of a pyramid, or square mountain like shape.

Rev 21:22; I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its temple.
Rev 21:23; And the city has no need of the sun or of the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God has illumined it, and its lamp is the Lamb.

If Jesus/God is going to be in the New Jerusalem on the New Earth, and God reigns on Mount Zion, it only makes sense to me, that the New Jerusalem would be
pretty much where the current Jerusalem/Mount Zion are today.

Rev 21:27; and nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into it, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life.

Rev 22:1 Then he showed me a river of the water of life, clear as crystal, coming from the throne of God and of the Lamb,
Rev 22:2 in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
Rev 22:3 There will no longer be any curse; and the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and His bond-servants will serve Him;
Rev 22:4 they will see His face, and His name will be on their foreheads.
Rev 22:5 And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.

The tree of life. Possibly the same mentioned in Genesis.

Gen 2:9; Out of the ground the LORD God caused to grow every tree that is pleasing to the sight and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

The water of life. Possibly the same mentioned in Ezekiel.

Ezek 47:1; Then he brought me back to the door of the house; and behold, water was flowing from under the threshold of the house toward the east, for the house faced east. And the water was flowing down from under, from the right side of the house, from south of the altar.
Ezek 47:2; He brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate by way of the gate that faces east. And behold, water was trickling from the south side.
Ezek 47:3; When the man went out toward the east with a line in his hand, he measured a thousand cubits, and he led me through the water, water reaching the ankles.
Ezek 47:4 ; Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the knees. Again he measured a thousand and led me through the water, water reaching the loins.
Ezek 47:5; Again he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not ford, for the water had risen, enough water to swim in, a river that could not be forded.
Ezek 47:6; He said to me, "Son of man, have you seen this?" Then he brought me back to the bank of the river.
Ezek 47:7; Now when I had returned, behold, on the bank of the river there were very many trees on the one side and on the other.
Ezek 47:8; Then he said to me, "These waters go out toward the eastern region and go down into the Arabah; then they go toward the sea, being made to flow into the sea, and the waters of the sea become fresh.
Ezek 47:9; "It will come about that every living creature which swarms in every place where the river goes, will live. And there will be very many fish, for these waters go there and the others become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes.
Ezek 47:10; "And it will come about that fishermen will stand beside it; from Engedi to Eneglaim there will be a place for the spreading of nets. Their fish will be according to their kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea, very many.
Ezek 47:11; "But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they will be left for salt.
Ezek 47:12; "By the river on its bank, on one side and on the other, will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither and their fruit will not fail. They will bear every month because their water flows from the sanctuary, and their fruit will be for food and their leaves for healing."

If we compare Rev 22:2; and Ezek 47:12; there are some similarities.

Rev 22:2; in the middle of its street. On either side of the river was the tree of life, bearing twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit every month; and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Healing of the nations? What nations? Who needs to be healed at this point?

Rev 22:14; Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.
Rev 22:15; Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.

Few passages in the Bible are more controversial than this one. Who are these people outside the New Jerusalem, who are not allowed to enter.
Perhaps these are the people who need to be healed.

1Cor 4:8; You are already filled, you have already become rich, you have become kings without us; and indeed, I wish that you had become kings so that we also might reign with you.
2Tim 2:12; If we endure, we will also reign with Him; If we deny Him, He also will deny us;

Christians rule and reign with Jesus? Who are we reigning over? Other Christians? .. maybe... but also possibly over these people who can't enter the city.

God’s people are also referred to as Zion, Jerusalem and the holy city.

Isaiah 51:16
And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou art my people.

Isaiah 52:1
Awake, awake; put on thy strength, O Zion; put on thy beautiful garments, O Jerusalem, the holy city: for henceforth there shall no more come into thee the uncircumcised and the unclean.

Isaiah 61:10
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels”

God dwells “in” His Holy city.

Then After The "GREAT WHITE THRONE Judgement!

He will, The FATHER will DESTROY all Creation that "THE SON have Created" everything. and we will forever Be in "ETERNITY" Eternity is not in Creation" but "Heaven and Earth" is. For that is all I talk about is "ETERNITY" is our Final destination, For in this "Truth" was Hidden in "Christ Jesus" which is in "The NEW COVENANT" and Hidden In "THE OLD TESTAMENT" But Revealed IN "Christ Jesus" But The OLD COVENANT is Manifested IN "THE NEW COVENANT" for The New Covenant is The Fulfilling of The OLD COVENANT!

For these are THE THINGS THAT ARE IN "ETERNITY" Creation is in Creation and not in ETERNITY. and the human mind cannot go there or even imagine there is such a place.

This is not a remodel Heaven and A Remodel Earth, But "Anthropomorphic Words" using the Human words "HEAVEN and EARTH"

God is not like human Governments that has Human Holding Places, God has Spheres in any form he pleases, There are no kinds of limits he has and no human mind can hold to his applications of things, we cannot sum up the ways and how he operates or think, in all his ways, and how he does things we do not come anywhere near HIM. and if your mind even think it can go there we are gravely mistaken and in completely in error, even after we have been in "ETERNITY" for "Quintillions" of Earthly years. we have not even even come a tiny bit close to His "Magnificence" of the Full scope of Our "Full Shared Inheritance" what we have Inherited from Him.

All My Brothers and sisters in Christ, must stop thinking in EARTHLY TERMS and PLACES and Earth centered thoughts for all that refers to The Fleshly minds and ways cannot receive the things Freely given to us IN "GOD" Through Christ Jesus who is Our LORD and Not This world 'Lord'.

God's Word called them and label them: "Saints", "The Sons of GOD" and "The people of GOD" and "The Children of GOD" " The Congregation of GOD" "The Assembly of GOD's people" God never called them Christians. and he never will, neither will JESUS. and Throughout all eternity he will not mention the term Christians, a matter of Fact He will eliminate and wipe that term off from all Eternity and it will not be remember no more!

And I know it is "The TRUTH" let us wait and see. But to me "The TRUTH" matters now and then. But to many, does it really matters now or only matters then?

If Jesus/God is going to be in the New Jerusalem on the New Earth, and God reigns on Mount Zion, it only makes sense to me, that the New Jerusalem would be
pretty much where the current Jerusalem/Mount Zion are today.

That New Jerusalem is the restored Garden of Eden, the completion of God's first instruction to mankind - be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. The original Eden was the intersection of heaven and earth, but just a tiny speck, possibly located in today's Iraq. The goal was to expand Eden to the whole earth, that will be accomplished with the millennial reign of Christ, and when it's over, Satan and some of those rebellious nations will be defeated permanently and thrown into the Lake of Fire for eternity, then the old heaven and earth fade away, the new heaven and earth created as the New Jerusalem, and that's the grand finale. It goes right back to the beginning.
