As one whom his mother comforts, So I will comfort you; And you shall be comforted in Jerusalem." Isaiah 66:13
God sees your troubles. He hears your groaning. And He's right there with you, beside you, sharing your burden and your sorrow. Trust that He cares for you and will act. He won't remove all burdens and hardships from your life--at least not immediately--but He will reach out with His Spirit to comfort you and to help you bear up the weight you carry.
God depicts Himself as having the tender heart of a mother, responding to the sorrow of a crying child. Tests have been done in recent years that highlight the different reactions of men and women: when hearing a baby crying, most men become aggravated and disturbed; most women, however, feel pangs of empathy, and a strong desire to comfort the child.
God says that just like a mother, He's irresistibly moved to comfort you. This is brought out beautifully in the book of Revelation, where John says that when you get to heaven, God will personally wipe the tears from your eyes (Revelation 7:17; 21:4). But know this: He's wiping your tears away even now.
Prayer: Dear Father, thank You for presenting a picture of Your love that I can understand. Thank You for responding to my sorrow and pain. Help me to trust that You are deeply for me and are comforting me.
