Several years ago when I was still in the workforce and working as an electrician the Job I was on came to an end, and I got laid off. The next day my wife asked me If was going to go down and sign up at the unemployment office. I said, “not today”. A few more days went by and my wife asked me again with a little more authority if I was going to the unemployment office. I thought about it and said, “yes I think I should go today.”
I dislike the unemployment office as there is always a long line there. I got in one of those long lines and I noticed a very tall lady four or five people ahead of me. She was wearing a very short mini-dress with fishnet stockings. When she turned around to see how long the line had become I could see on her face that she had a very hard life, probably a very hard night before. The Lord said to me "that he wanted me to talk to her about Jesus." I thought about it and said to the Lord, I am not getting out of this line and lose my spot. Then I reconsidered my answer and said to the Lord, “I tell you what Ill do, let me finish my business, and if she is still around I will do as you ask”. The Lord did not say anything after that so I figured we had a deal.
After I had finished my business I looked around for this lady. I did not see her anywhere so I walked out the front door and looked around for her. She was nowhere to be found so I started walking to my car to go home. As I walked to the street I saw a car parked along the curb with its front passenger door open and two feet sticking out. I walked up to this car to see who those two feet belonged to. It was this lady the Lord wanted me to talk to. She was lying down in the front seat with her legs sticking out with her eyes closed. I did not want to say anything, but I tapped gently on the roof of her car, she opened her eyes and sat up. I said, “Mam, I think the Lord wants me to talk to you about Jesus”. As soon as I said those words to her tears began to run down her face. I thought maybe I should just go home now. As I began to walk away the lady said “Wait, I have something to tell you.”
She began to tell me that she was in a motel room last night and being very depressed she was clicking through the TV channels and came to a preacher on TV. The preacher said, “Jesus loves you and wants to be your savior.” She said to herself “God if you are real send someone to me to tell me about this Jesus.”
Well, I guess that was me who the Lord had sent to her. I witnessed to her and asked if she wanted to pray with me for Jesus to save her from your sins. She said “Yes” with tears still streaming down her cheeks.
After we had prayed I saw a transformation on her face that was not there before. I gave her a Bible I had in my car, and I left her to go home rejoicing in the Spirit for what God had done for this lady.
If I had gone to the unemployment office a few days earlier this would have never happened. God's timing is very important even when we think we are just being lazy.
