Nigeria: 130 Christians murdered over cartoons

Muslim rioters, incensed over the cartoons of Muhammad published in Denmark, were responsible for killing at least 130 Christians on the streets of Maiduguri and Onitsha in Nigeria, according to reports filtering out of the country from Voice of the Martyrs.

At least 51 Christians are confirmed dead in the Maiduguri attacks that took place Saturday. In the rampage, more than 150 homes and 32 churches were burned, and 85 shops were destroyed. Authorities were finally able to control the volatile scene after arresting 114 and having militia enforce a curfew.

The mayhem began when Muslims staged their demonstration against degrading caricatures of Muhammad that were originally published in September 2005 by the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten. Even though the cartoons were by no means a Christian attack on Islam, Muslims in Nigeria and throughout the world have turned their rage toward Christians – many of whom have never even heard of the controversial sketches, reports Voice of the Martyrs.

I hate to sound prejudiced but I will even add on (although much smaller matters in comparison to this) that on a daily basis, I literally get at least one, two or more registrations from "Nigeria" who come here simply to solicit and spam, to persecute the Christians on this board. I disapprove all registrations from Nigeria. That country is a complete mess. It is very well known for persecution, spamming scams (internet) and I have heard nothing good come from this country.

This is the plain truth from my experience. God will judge all.

These fools do just that, make complete fools of themselves. They take the life of many people (innocent ones to to mention) over a cartoon they disagree on? Plain devils in non-disguise.

Thank you sister. I understand and agree with you completely. That is why I mentioned that I "hope" I don't sound prejudiced. I was merely going by experience, stories on the news, etc. I know this does not disqualify every person in the country of course. Just certain things one goes through puts them in that state of mind and belief.

Just like the story of GOD with Nehemiah or when GOD was questioned [humbly] by Abraham about destroying an entire city if there was one innocent person there. GOD says he would not destroy it. Same idea so to speak.

Forgive me if I sounded judgmental, not intended whatsoever.

Nigeria is a country of about 130 million people. Of these, 70 million or so are professing Christians, and half the professing Christians are genuinely saved. Next to the USA, Nigeria has the highest number of born-again Christians per capita. (Some say there are actually more believers in Nigeria than in the USA) Nigeria is a country of extremes. Extremist Moslems, extremist scammers and extemist born-again Christians, Christ loving brothers and sisters walking in the love of the Lord.

Scammers account for less than 1% of the Nigerian population. However, they are very visible because they are the ones you constantly meet on-line. This can lead even the most sincere and informed observer to consign all Nigerians to the rubbish heap. There are over 128 million sincere and law abiding Nigerians.

Scamming knows no borders. I have recently been scammed here in Canada and not by Nigerians. Sin is common to all men. Especially the unsaved

I implore you to reconsider not approving all registrations from Nigeria. The Lord will give you wisdom in going about this.

May the Lord bless our hearts.

Thank you brother. I agree 100% on your last statement. It did weigh on my heart abou refusing the registrations. However, after so many scams on Talk Jesus here and there literally from Nigeria, I tried my best to protect this community. Of course my discernment is imperfect but I will and have always tried my best to lean on the Holy Spirit to guide me. I don't ever want to refuse the blessing from GOD to someone else innocent, through this great site Talk Jesus. GOD has done more than eyes can see.

God bless you. Your words seemed to have convicted me by the Holy Spirit to re-think the process and possibly find other ways to prevent spam without disapproving their registrations.

May the Lord continue to bless you as you labour in His vineyard.

If you need my input in identifying scammers, please let me know. I think I may be of little help.
