He would have given thee living water - John 4 : 10 - 11
Notice that it did not depend upon her merit. Grace, is kindness poured out when there is no deserving it; and this woman was without any thought of God, or any desire whatsoever, except that of her own satisfaction.
Yet it was for her that Jesus went out of His way, in order that He might give her divine life; living water. And if Jesus would show such concern for her, how much more for those of us who know and trust him?
But many Christians hesitate to draw near to God, because they think that God requires some good works with which to commend ourselves. Many Christians get into depression and difficulty, for all sort's of reasons, and feel unable to turn to God in prayer. They imagine that they have to break through to God by their own strength, and need to merit a divine 'well done' before they will be able to ask for God's help.
No: Gods Salvation from both past and present sin, from difficulty, from despair, or dissatisfaction, is not given because of what we do, or what we are.
"Nothing in my hand I bring, Simply to thy cross I cling. Naked come to thee for dress, Helpless look to thee for grace".
That must be the continuous attitude of the believer throughout Christian life. God's riches and the living water of the fullness of God's Spirit, will never depend upon our merit, any more than they did with this woman long ago.
God is waiting to supply all our need to the uttermost limit now, completely apart from our achievements.
"Whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst: for the water that I shall give, shall be a well of water springing up into everlasting life"
Amen....Amen
