And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. "The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." Exodus 14:13-14 NKJV
God showed up every day in the Israelite camp. He was doing things that needed to survive in memories and shared around campfires. He was feeding and watering hundreds of thousands, but some thought giving up was a greater virtue. They’d been slaves after all. Maybe they felt that’s all they were good for. But Moses declared that fear was off limits. He told the people to use their eyes to see what God would do, their minds to understand how He would rescue, and their mouths to close in honored silence in a view to a rescue.
Taking heart isn’t a pep talk that you say to yourself hoping that someday you’ll believe it. The idea of taking heart is a potent mixture of faith and hope that expands in the knowledge that God’s got whatever you fear. It’s more than self-encouraging, though many leave it there. You get to walk with God, knowing that He works on your behalf to bring good outcomes to bad circumstances. Take heart. Let it change the look on your face, the hesitancy in your step, and the downcast slope of your shoulders.
Prayer: Father, I want to stand tall, be brave and discover the strength I need to do something more than make halfhearted wishes. Help me stand, discover, and do—with You.
