OBAMA CONDEMNS RIGHTS OF CHRISTIAN MILITARY CHAPLAINS

President Barack Obama has signed the $633 billion defense bill into law, but has criticized one of its provisions protecting conscience rights.

The provision exempts chaplains from ceremonies like same-sex weddings that they oppose based on their faith.

It also says the military cannot punish chaplains or other service members for their religious beliefs and must accommodate them unless the individual's speech or actions threaten good order and discipline.

In a signing statement, Obama called the conscience provision "unnecessary and ill-advised" and said his administration remains committed "to protecting the rights of gay and lesbian service members."

Here is the president's full statement: "Section 533 is an unnecessary and ill-advised provision, as the military already appropriately protects the freedom of conscience of chaplains and service members. The Secretary of Defense will ensure that the implementing regulations do not permit or condone discriminatory actions that compromise good order and discipline or otherwise violate military codes of conduct. My Administration remains fully committed to continuing the successful implementation of the repeal of Don't Ask, Don't Tell, and to protecting the rights of gay and lesbian service members; Section 533 will not alter that."

The Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty responded: "The president is not at liberty to disregard the law" he signed. "Chaplains should be able to stand by their faith traditions and honor their commitments to God's Word," said Alliance executive director Ron Crews.

Wasn't there something called the First Amendment of the Constitution of the United States?
Didn't this guarantee us freedom to follow our own religious beliefs?

Wasn't one of the main reasons the Americans left Great Britain was because they didn't want the government telling them how to worship/believe?

This is only the beginning...we will see this brought up more and more as we get closer to Christs coming ...there was a time when ministers had an obligation to stand by thier faith...we will see more of this kind of attitude towards Gods people and ministers ..PRAY,PRAY,PRAY..! in Jesus name .....Rev

But... as probably most of us agree, there are few that are concerned with what God might think about this situation and particularly how those who do not know God will be afffected.

Let us pray that God will bring more people to an understanding so they will join us in prayer for a better way in accord with His goodness and His mercy. Glory to His name!

Unfortunatley, many within the "church" are going along woth the world and the government on this

Yes, the importance of prayer and of obeying God have been diminishing, it seems, even within what is commonly known as the "churches".

I wish Jonah would come back and preach to the city of Washington DC, perhaps they would repent as well. Wouldnt that be great!!!

roger that brothers, but after my years of service, and telling the boys back in 95 get ready it's coming, i have to hang up my kevlar. 6 combat tours and 21 years. this bunch in DC is changing things in the military way too much. females in combat arms units? don't think the God i serve meant for that to happen. i guess, as He tells us in the word, we have to live in this world, but don't live as it does.

Thank you for you're service ssgnewt to The Lord first and freedom .....I was a thunder bird my self 745 MP co. May The Lord continue to you you in spiritual warfare as well .Rev

It would be a great thing. I am afraid it is that the treatment of a Jonah preaching in Washington D.C. would be closer to that given to the two witnesses of Revelation. You can lead a horse to water, but making him drink is quite another thing. We know that God in spite of His great power will not force-feed His Way into those who choose to oppose Him.

Help us to stand always with You dear Lord and help us to pray that others will join us!

Mililtary Chaplains serve God first and the military second, and much to Obama's chagrin, he is not God.
Isaiah 5:20 "Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!"
This incident and some other presidential orders pertaining to what Christian chaplains can and cannot do are in direct violation of the first amendment, which, ironically, is what US soldiers have pledged to defend.

As I understand the opening remarks of this thread, chaplains who do not wish to marry same-sex couples are not required to do so according to the rules of their denomination, State Law, and the Military's code of service discipline. The "don't ask / don't tell" is a Catch-22 for the Gay serviceman who wants everyone to know he/she is Gay. If I'm not allowed to ask, you are not allowed to tell me.

To the person wishing Jonah preaching to DC, Jonah is no longer with us. However, you are. Feel free to pick up the baton and run with it. Don't let fear stop you.

Military chaplains serve the Military first, and are allowed to serve God as per their denomination within the DOD framework. If the two conflict, that person can apply for a release and will no longer be a military chaplain and is free to find a church they are happy with.

While not defending your much despised President and his religious beliefs, I find Americans tend to speak with a forked tongue regarding their nation's First Amendment. Bear in mind that the same rules which protect them also protect you.

Cheers,
John
