For some time i have been studying health nutrition and fitness and thank god i will recive my dipolma at the end of this month. My dream is to help people who suffer from obesity. It is a diease and not many people reconise this. I felt a calling toward this for a long time. I have studied and spoken to many obese people.

It hurts me deeply when i see their pain and suffering. To be traped inside a jail cell that you made is a horrible thing. People are cruel and the abuse that these obese people recive make me sick. Many people ask 'why dont they just stop eating or go on a diet' Would you ask a drug addict to just stop using like its that simple. It a powerfull diease and the solution to it is far from simple.
2 months ago a woman moved into the house next door to me. I seen her very few times as she found moving next to impossible. This poor woman was an average 40 stone plus. She lost her children as she could no longer care for them. She knew if she didnt stop eating she would die. But she just could not stop she was addicated to food and no matter how hard she tried food always won. She died her battle was lost ,this diease took everything she loved away and than took her life. It was never her fault nor is it the fault of thousands of parents screaming for help to save their obese children.

I pray the lord will give me the tools i need to help women ,men and children who are suffering so greatly. I beg all those who read this to understand this is a diease and not to judge or look down on those who suffer from it. They already suffer greatly inside. A smile and a simple how are feeling today? can help help break the first bar on this circle of pain and isolation.

May the lord be with all those who suffer and lead them through the darkness.

 I agree with stephen and candygirl; you are something special, mounty.
Thank you for your heart and what you do, and for using your gifts of encouragement, too.

That's really nice of you to care for them and want to help them. Just like many other things, there are underlying reasons why some obese people have those eating habits. So in addition to prayer, i recommend really trying to get to know the people below the surface and ask them questions relating to what makes them happy, agitated, and try to understand how they cope with stress or difficult situations. The fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness and self control. Many times we get distracted and tend to exhibit lust, envy, gluttony, wrath, greed, pride, and sloth. All of these things can be part of Satan's way of making us feel the need to find an instantaneous escape and can lead to an eating disorder. Many times, understanding and resolving issues deep within the person can bring clarity and help the person know why they are doing what they are doing and then ask for Guidance to overcome the habit. Once someone is in the cycle, it's hard to break, a movie quote said it pretty well, "I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat." The question is what triggered the initial unhappy feelings? And for some people, there are genetic factors that lead to their obesity. That situation creates a whole new set of factors. I'm not very familiar with the severe genetic problems. You could do more research on that... but for the other situations, you may do this already, but try and get to the heart of the people... you'll find amazing things and help them understand themselves. I pray God will help you do well in this pursuit.

This is sooo true. My husband used eating to deal with the stress of being a semi truck driver and leaving his wife and kids behind for his work. We were also involved in a car accident and he ate to sooth his pains, mentally and physically. His parents and brother were also obese, so there may be some genetic predisposition there as well. We have four children and only one of them is obese, so it is a confusing disease/addiction. Keep on pursuing your dream we need people like you.

Thanks and God bless you.

Hi mounty,
I think its fantastic that you are called to helping people with this issue. I do suffer from obesity, but not as severe as the lady you mentioned.
However, i heard something really interesting on the tv lately which i'll mention incase its of interest. I was watching Jackie Pullinger speak, the lady who helps drug addicts in Hong Kong, and she was talking about addictive behaviour which could include compulsive overeating.
She said that what she's found is that at the root of the issue is hurt either because the person has been the victim of something, or else because they are guilty of something. Then what happens is they try and cover the shame with addictive behaviour.
She also said that its not helpful to 'cast out a spirit of addiction' as 9/10 you will be wrong and she said that not all addictive behaviour is due to a spirit. I have tried searching for more of her teaching and talks online but little seems to be available, but she has had incredible results with the people she works with.
The conference i saw was called 'Easter People' and i think it was 2000.

God bless,

Rachel

Hello Sister Mounty!

This is awesome that you are looking to help those around you. Alot of times, American society pushes people aside because of the way they look.

I will never forget how I was watching a show a few years ago on obesity. There was a woman who was about 450 lbs and unfortunately, because she was so big, she was forced to stay in her house. Because of this, she lost all her friends and the only family around was her husband.

She joined a club that allowed people to annoymously send obese people little gifts. She opened a package to find that someone sent her a candle- that only cost about $5- and she was so happy that she started to cry.

It goes to show how little things count.

i think i seen that show, she had short brown hair, and was getting ready for a gastric bypass? if it is the same show oh my heart broke for her.

Mounty i have been a christian for nearly 20 years now and you are the first person i have met who feels called to working with obese people.
Well for obeying whats not going to be an easy calling. You are truly a pioneer.
Although i'm not obese i am 4st overweight having just lost 1st and i know it's not as easy as simply improving your diet, there are also a lot of physcological( i hope i've spelt that right) issues to be dealt with before the obese person can even think of trying to lose weight.
I pray that Gods Holy Spirit will guide you and the Lord give you wisdom as you move into your calling.

Thank you for your kind words

Its amazing how our King works, for some time my life has been in a big mess and i have been working so hard to keep all on track for a while i felt my dreams of working with obese people was fading fast,,

Looking back now i see God has turned and changed my life to fit my calling ,i even got a offer out of the blue to attend a college this year which i started in september and it ties perfectly into my hope to help battle obesity.

God truely has my life mapped out and i cannot wait to start doing what my King has planned for me.

Wow Mounty,

There is a real need there. A quote I read in a career book said something to the effect of : "where the word's great need and our great desire intersect..." is a special place from God. I wish that I could give it to you directly but it hit the edge of my brain when I read your post and then flew out. Sorry to not be able to capture it - I tell you that I rejoice to read your post and think about how the Lord will use you in your lifetime.

God bless you, lots!
