I have a question about people with OCD or anxiety issues.

I know in the Bible it talks about some people having demons in their lives that cause anxieties and sickness; I was just wondering if there are any modern day Biblical answers or explanations for people with severe mental conditions.?.

And is there really such a thing as demons possessing people??

Thanks :)

Yes. But it can more often be a hormonal chemical or imbalance that is easily corrected. A good doctor's visit and a thorough checkup is always recommended.
As far as demons, Jesus Christ Himself addressed them and cast them out also giving the same ability to His people. I also find more often that people are demonically oppressed than possessed but either has the same answer.
If one is dealing with this type of problem the first and most important question is this:
Is that person born again?
The next and equally important questions is this: is that person willing to surrender every area of their life to God? Are they willing to forgive everyone that hurt them? that used them? That abused them?
If the answer to all of these is yes than any Spirit filled believer can help them but there are of course ministries that specialize in deliverance.
I hope this answers your question.
Many blessings in Jesus Name,
brother Larry.

OCD and other mental illnesses are not demons.

Mental illnesses can be MANAGED but not cured.

for some they are easily "correctable" with medication or therapy.
others it is not as easy, also it depends on the problem and the severity.

But please know that if someone has a severe mental illness, it doesn't make them demon possessed or any less of a Christian.

and also, as a side note. Taking medication for any illness, does not mean you don't have enough faith.

1 Pete 2:24 says "By Jesus stripes we WERE healed." Nothing is incurable.

Amen. And though those illnesses can exist independently the only thing that rules out demonic oppression in anyone is discernment through the Holy Spirit.

I've been a born-again believing in the Gifts of the Spirit Christian (see 1 Cor 12-14) for 27 years and been to a kazillion church meetings in that time, but I've only seen one demon-possessed person; a young lady with her eyes rolled back, writhing like a snake. Myself and a couple other believers joined our pastor in laying hands on her and praying. It took between half an hour and an hour, an event that I will never forget, but that demon eventually left her and she was healed.

Demon possession is very rare. As my pastor once said, "Its not a case of a demon being behind every doorknob that doesn't turn."

This is one of the problems with "the Church", by telling the congregation to ignore this, it does not present a problem to the modern church, it does not affect 'Christians', or perhaps even, 'they just don't exsist', the problem never goes away.

They do exist, they do stand on every street corner, they attend church, they are every where you go, even if they are just looking in your windows, they are there. They are waiting for that small opening into your life, your thoughts, your weakness.

Jesus said to "watch and Pray", what do you suppose we are to be watching for? Just His return? We are just supposed to sit here and sing some songs, and have coffee and donuts and all is well? This is a war. What do your think the whole armor of God is for, a Zumba session? This is a war in the flesh.

Satan is here to steal, kill and destroy. He will change his plans, twist so many turns in the truth that no one even cares to find the truth anymore, he would love for all to believe that they are never going to have to deal with him because they are 'Christians" and it is a lie straight from hell.

"we war not against flesh and blood", the flesh is weak, the flesh is blind, the flesh is lame, the flesh is dumb, the flesh is gullible. Satan may not be your personal escort into hell on earth, but he had legions of followers that are here to accommodate even the strongest Christian on to a road of failure.

Satanic spirits are ever changing and moving, ready at any moment to come across like a roaring lion, and sometimes like a gentle breeze. I so love that Jesus is the same today yesterday and forever. We have the equipment to overcome, yet so many ignore the battle cry, it is an alarm clock and people are just hitting the snooze bar over and over and over.

WAKE UP!!

I used to believe that way also. While there are not demons behind every doorknob it is not nearly as rare as most would like to believe. Having spent several years in a ministry that practiced (as needed) deliverance I have seen things that would make your hair curl. I have also to the glory of God seen lives changed by exercising the power Christ gave the church:

Mar 16:17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;
Mar 16:18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Folks are free to believe what they will.As far as seizures it is interesting that you say that Alice as demons caused seizures when Jesus Christ cast them out and it is only one way they can manifest. Just because one has not experienced it does not make it so.
Mar 9:20 And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
Mar 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said, Of a child.

May I ask if the following is true, or could be?:

There are "demons" and there are "possessions", but rarely are they present of themselves. The only way a demon or possession can take hold of person is through the person's submission to sin. In other words, if the person is bent on doing some sort of evil, that evil that they do completely takes them over.

Ed Satan is a legalist. Even if a person gets into the devils realm by accident or through ignorance he is vulnerable to attack from the enemy. Satan doesn't care if you have the best of intentions. If you step into his realm you're his lunch. Then you have some housecleaning to do.

I appreciate your input Viejo, but in this case what I am refering to has nothing to do with satan at all, but either our own human nature, or our own stupidity.

Ed. Man sinned and there is salvation for him.
Satan sinned and there is NO salvation for him.

What's the difference?

For insight on how the enemy operates in peoples' lives, read The Screwtape Letters by C. S. Lewis (see 1 Pet 5:8).
