Are they still studying about this possibly being the real Noah's ark? I think they should keep moving forward with the investigation. Get some architects up there to dig and try to get pieses of the gopher wood.
I always had my own thoughts that Noah burned the ark after the flood for sacrificing to the Lord and for cooking food, staying warm, etc.

A friend of mine visits the site regularly; he knew Ron Wyatt and has also been to the other Biblical sites that Wyatt found eg the Red Sea crossing (where he has completed over 200 dives) and Mt Sinai.
The ark site is fascinating. There is so much evidence from the anchor stones to the ancient names of the nearby villages. My friend, Ross, did a presentation at our church a couiple of months ago...he continues to visit and his group are in constant negotiations with the Turkish government over access and work permits. The area has been designated a national park...but is in a very sensitive strategic place militarily because it is so close to China so the local govt is very sensitive about foreigners moving around. Great though that Turkey recognises the site as the genuine Noahs ark.
