On Line Chatting

Recently my mother started chatting online. She has had a computer since 1999, but this was the first time she's ever chatted. She told my uncle that she was chatting on a site and found it interesting. He started to get on her about on line chatting was just a place to find a man or a woman. MOm said she disagreed. The reason he said this, was I met my husband online by accident a few years ago. We weren't even looking. I told mom not to worry. Some people use on line chatting for many reasons. Some for fellowship with other Christians like in here, Some to talk about a common topic etc.

He even went to my mom's best friend and complained to her. she felt she had to try chatting so she could defend my mom. She did and she liked it. Her husband was with her all the way.

This is an example of a close-minded person painting a whole bunch of people with the same brush.

Its true that some people use internet chats to find romance and that pedophiles and other perverts use internet chat rooms to find victims. But, many, many, if not most chatters on the internet have no ulterior motives at all.

To say that the internet shouldn't be used because crimes are committed by some of its users is like saying that automobiles shouldn't be used because crimes are committed by some of their users.

Good response SpiritLed. Whatever can be immorally done on the internet can be immorally done off the internet (general statement). Pedophiles are online and offline aren't they? Chat rooms can be moderated (like ours here) or not (like Yahoo there).

There is so much misunderstanding of what the internet is. As Chad said there are immoral things on & off-line.
Maybe your aunt should show her husband what kind of place she is chatting at.
There are good places to do this, such as this site. AND, there are bad ones, which I have not gone to or experienced, but have heard of. The horror stories get spread, but the good news rarely does.
My sister is scared of chat rooms. Well, I would be of some chat rooms! Some of them we should all be scared of!

I agree - its crazy stuff - I use on line chatting for friendship and an exchange of views in relative anonymity.At Talk Jesus I find fellowship and friendship in the spirit of our Saviour. I think its a great outlet for your Mom and there are lots of genuine people similarly minded after all its only a modern day extension of the old pen pal method upon which many lasting friendships were established. People's contra opinions probably refelect their own insecurities. God Bless.

I like online chat to make friends. If God uses it to bring me a spouse, so what? He uses the internet for good. Look at how He uses it to spread the Gospel. Praise the Lord!
