Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever. Psalm 73:25-26

Desire in and of itself can be good and healthy, but how often do you suffer grief or disappointment because you have desired the wrong thing or action? It's possible that you may think of such desires as coming from the enemy, pulling you away from God.

God doesn't delight in thwarting or stifling your desires. If you've grown up with a long list of religious rules to follow, hearing that may be a shock. However, no one has ever found God by amassing a list of things to do and stopping there. The Psalms take us one step further.

Today's psalm invites you to rethink your desires--asking where you desires are directed. Your desires can be directed toward a God who passionately loves you and who wants nothing more than to affirm your true self in union with Him.

There are a thousand ways to be discontented, lonely, and disappointed. There's only one way to find the love and acceptance that have been waiting for you since day one. The love and acceptance you seek in a thousand ways on earth have always been yours in the presence of God.
