Daniel replied, "There are no wise men, enchanters, magicians, or fortune-tellers who can reveal the king's secret. But there is a God in heaven who reveals secrets, and he has shown King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the future. Now I will tell you your dream and the visions you saw as you lay on your bed. Daniel 2:27-28 NLT
Today’s scripture contains the words of the Old Testament prophet Daniel to Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar, who had asked him to interpret a troubling dream he’d had. The king had already turned to his astrologers and magicians, but they couldn’t help him. So, he turned to the man of God, Daniel.
With God’s help, Daniel solved the mystery of the king’s dream. But first he stated some wisdom that is still important to us today. God had given Nebuchadnezzar his dream, and only God could explain what it meant—not wise men, not enchanters, not magicians, and not diviners.
Daniel interpreted the king’s dream. But he could only do it because he was in constant communication with his Father in heaven. So when he spoke the interpretation, he was speaking God’s own message to the king.
It’s sometimes tempting to turn to sources of worldly wisdom when we’re desperate for answers. But we should always trust God and His written Word when we need wisdom and understanding.
Prayer: Lord God, You are the ultimate source of wisdom and understanding. Through Your Holy Spirit, You help me to understand what otherwise would only be a mystery. Thank You for giving me the wisdom and understanding I need to live for You.
