I just wanted to share this story about a event that happened in my life in hopes that it will help someone else.

I am a night shift worker. usually at night when its quiet, I'll read my bible or do something that deals with my learning more about Christ (talking with other christians). I have been saved for about 6 months now. There are moments when I am so hungry for the Word. When I just want to know more about Christ. But, there has times when I was not really reading and spending time with Christ like I should. I've learned though, to put Christ first no matter what's going on in my life. Here's my story.....

I had been busy all week. Running to do this for this person, running to do that for that person. Spinning in circles. I had got in the habit of reading my bible at work during quiet times, but that week I had failed to do so. We had started a new series at church bible study about knowing the different names of God. I wanted to know so much about the different names and couldn't wait to go over them each week. I purchased a book that would help me to understand the names and had decided to begin reading it during my quiet time at work.

Well, one night at work, I pulled out the book and my bible to begin studying. Of course I got all off track and begin talking with other co-workers. You might as well say gossiping. Now remember, I had been running in circles all week, so I hadn't really spent time with God. I decided to go upstairs and talk with some other coworkers before the night was over. So guess what I did? I put the small book of the names of God in my pocket and decided I'll just do it later. Later? So I'm walking off the unit, book in my pocket, singing about an awesome God. Stepped on the elevator and had a thought, "what if this elevator got stuck?" Well you guessed it, it did. I pressed all the buttons, nothing happened. Stood there and prayed for the door to open, nothing happened. So, I used the phone in the elevator to let them know where I was.

I stood there in silence, praying. I was a little nervous at first but calmness came over me. I prayed to God, "please just don't let the lights go out." Yes, for a few seconds, the lights went out. When the lights came back on, I stood there thinking, "I have this book about the names of God in my pocket, I was singing about how great God is before I got on this elevator, hmmmmmmm??????" I closed my eyes for a brief second and I heard a voice say, "Do I have your attention now?" Of course, it took me a few seconds to get over the shock of what I heard. I just shook my head and smiled, "yes, you have my attention." One of my coworkers then told me to press the button while they pushed on the door. We did this and the door opened.

I went back to my desk, still in shock of what had just happened. My supervisor told me to put a note on the elevator door. I typed the note, got the tape and went to hang it on the elevator. As I put the note on the door, I noticed the words that were typed: "OUT OF ORDER."

I had been running around all week doing for everybody but God. I had but him last on my list when he should always be first. All we have to do is follow God and put him first, he'll handle everything else.

Wow God is amazing and never ceases to amaze me the way He works in our lives.

He is indeed a jealous God and we need to make sure we seek Him first every day as well as putting on our armour each day.

Thank you very much for sharing this testimony with us here.

God is good all the time. He is worthy to be praised.

This is the day the Lord has made we will rejoice and be glad in it.

God bless  :rainbow: :rose:

That is an amazing story!

WOW!

When you say: "I heard a voice" - do you mean this literally or as an internal thought? I am really fascinated to know.

However, I am not trying to take anything away from the fact that God spoke to you. WOW!

You must be so special!

Our God is an Awsome God! Great message! One of the things
I love most about our Lord is how personal He gets with us.
Thanks for the reminder to be sure we are putting Him first
where He belongs!

Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
for they shall be filled."

Sadeyes,
Thanks for the reply. Let me try to explain this the best I can. The words were not loud. Just soft, gentle. Not a whisper though. Believe me, I was shocked too! I'm learning that God speaks in so many different ways, I just have to stayed focused on him.

Sorry, but I still don't understand. Did you actually hear these words? You say that the words were soft and gentle so I presume that they were audible.

I hope that you don't mind me asking.

God's voice is in your thought processes. You hear him inside your heart, in your mind, but it is different than your own thoughts.

You will learn to recognize His voice as you draw closer to Him.

Reading the Scriptures and praying will bring the Word of God alive. So as a Baptist, I've been trained and trained to say that God ONLY speaks through the Bible.

But you know what? The truth is I'd be very disappointed if that were so.

I LONG to hear His voice. I LIVE to hear His voice. He is my life.

When I first became a christian it was quite confusing to me. Sometimes I even had to pray and ask, "Is this voice, me, the devil, or You, God?"

The bible says "test the spirit and see if it is from Me."

I pray that you will soon hear God's voice, sadeyes.

God isn't one to go on and on with long lectures like our teachers and our spouses, lol. But He will tell you like it is and He will tell you with great love.

Even if He speaks to you to discipline you about something, He will do it gently but firmly. He is God. He can speak to you however He wants to, sadeyes.

Be still and know that He is God.

Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice."

You are one of those sheep, sadeyes.

"I pray that you will soon hear God's voice, sadeyes."

I suppose that that is my problem. As I have never 'heard' God's voice, I have no personal understanding of what it means to 'hear' God's voice.

"God's voice is in your thought processes. You hear him inside your heart, in your mind, but it is different than your own thoughts."

- Thank you for that statement. I will look out for God's voice now that I know where to look!!!!!!
