Why in many circles so it seems Para Church is refered to in a derogatory
way>>??????

Many of the past missionaries, preachers & some of those with particular giftings have gone out on the tightrope of a''Leading from God''. :shade:

Many have maintained that ministry & accomplished much reaping on the way. :star:
You could say ''Who else would have done it?'' (What ever).

"Para" is Greek for "alongside". Tell me how a "para-church" is organized; what does it do? I'm not familiar with the term.

Ok, here is the encyclopedia definition:

Parachurch organizations are Christian faith-based organizations which carry out their mission usually independent of church oversight. The prefix para, is Greek for beside, or alongside.

Most parachurch organizations, at least those which are normally called parachurch, are Protestant and Evangelical. Some of these organizations cater to a defined spectrum among evangelical beliefs, but most are self-consciously interdenominational and many are ecumenical.

Roles undertaken by parachurch organizations include larger more national or international movements:

* Evangelistic crusade associations (patterned after the Billy Graham Association)
* Evangelistic and discipleship ministries (such as The Navigators, and Campus Crusade for Christ)
* Music and print publishers, radio and television stations, film studios, online ministries
* Study centers and institutes, schools, colleges and universities
* Political and social activist groups

And smaller, more localized movements:

* Welfare and social services, including homeless shelters, child care, and domestic violence, disaster relief programs, food pantries and clothing closets, and emergency aid centers (such as the City Missions)
* Self-help groups
* Bible study groups

I can't say that I've ever heard the "Para Church" (such as the Campus Crusade for Christ and others you mentioned) referred to in a derogatory. Could you give an example of who, when and where these derogatory statements were made?

Personally, the ones you mentioned that I'm familiar with have always been supported by my home church, and I've never heard anything but good remarks about them.

God bless,
Nigh

Forget the circles and the derogatory comments. Everyone has something to say, an opinion whether good or bad. That is why it is easier, and more peaceful to just listen to the Holy Spirit instead of sinners. People have bad things to say about Billy Graham for example. How unreal is that?

I see nothing wrong with them, I'm a supporter of YWAM, (youths with a mission )which would be considered a parachurch organization. There's Way of the Master, which is a great witnessing ministry.

The reason most of these organizations are formed,,, because they see the church lacking in some area. There are people stepping out of their home churches to start ministries, and we have brothers and sisters condemning them because he didnt choose to put that ministry under the church.

I think the problem is with the church ( many circles ) who choose not to support, but condemn them because they do not hold tides with their denomination.
