Last weekend my wife and I were watching "The Passion" and she was asking questions throughout that I answered as best I could, but one stumped me. I have a theory but wanted to see if anyone here may know.
If you have scene it you know that throughout the movie Jesus sees things that take him back to various things that have happened in the previous hours, days, etc. Near teh end of the movie Jesus is nearing Galgatha, falls with the cross from his exhaustion in sort of a public area when the Romans and others begin to beat him furtherand mock him. A woman appears pleading for them to stop, and when they do she draws close to him offers him a towel and a cup to drink from. The woman is shown just before this with her daughter in kind of an arbitrary scene comforting her daughter to the coming mob. My wife's question was who this woman was from scripture? Anyone know?
My theory is this either IS the Samaritan women from Jacob's well, or is just a woman placed in to provoke a "cut scene' back to the story of the Samaritan woman but with the cut back scene dropped for some reason. If you watch the way the movie is done start to finish this would make sense (especially given the drink she offers), but as it is it just seems like there is an explanation left out when Jesus gives her "the stare" that usually leads to a background story.
Anyway not earth shaking stuff , just figured someone may know or I missed something in the gospel accounts that would better explain.
Be Blessed
