Half the nation is on perscription medication. Not feeling well, go to the doc and hes got a pill for it. I want to know how other christians feel about this subject.

Well now I take several Prescription meds daily. As a survivor of a major heart attack and subsequent quad by-pass, there are a few meds that I will have to stay on for life if I wish to continue to enjoy life as I now know it. When I suffered my heart attack I lost a full 1/3 of my heart function, something that I will never get back. But apparently God wants me around for awhile as I am still here when all the doctors predicted quite the opposite outcome.

Because I sometimes suffer from panic attacks, I carry a small bottle of Xanax with me at all times along with my nitro tablets. Those panic attacks make my poor old heart race wildly, and the Xanax alleviates that problem. However, I do not abuse the drugs that I take..and I truly think that is the key.

Some people abuse the use of food, or their bodies, or drugs... It all depends on your persective I think... and no I am not going to quote any Bible verses on the subject of RX.. but I am glad that God gave folks the knowledge and capabilities to make the ones that I need to take.

Now there`s a can of worms ...

My personal feelings on this subject would prolly get the half of the nation (or half of Talk Jesus) that loves to be medicated mad at me ...

Seriously, I think the Westernized world (including mainstream medical doctors) were lulled to sleep by the song and dance of 'got a problem-we`ll concoct a solution' by Big Pharma.

There are very few pharma meds (leaving room for any I may not be aware of) that can treat the root of a health problem, they only mask the symptoms. Knowing this, (and it is common knowledge in the medical profession, if not among the common population) one would think the medical schools would train doctors to address health from a nutritional basis, instead of simply learning to diagnose symptoms, and which medicines and operations and procedures treat what.

That being said, there is no one more responsible for my health, than Me, Myself and I. Why then should I buy this song and dance, when history has proven that the more you run to doctors for meds, the more you run to doctors for meds.

'Not feeling well, go to the doc and hes got a pill for it'...in a nutshell, this is laziness, that is the result of the modern quick fix, convenience, mentality we`ve been breeding for a few generations now, and we and our children are paying for it dearly.

Sure its easier to chow down dead, processed, fatty, sugary, salty, preservative filled, chemical filled, foods, that someone else prepared for us, and then let someone else create a pill that fixes what we so carelessly messed up, but its sure not very wise.

I am completely convinced that lack of nutrition is at the root of all sickness and disease.

I also believe Great Grandma and Grandpa knew better how to make use of common sense than we do knowledge

Thankfully, many of us are waking up...:embarasse

Well, I am not against prescriptions. In fact, I am prepared to begin studying pharmacy in hopes to become a Pharm. D. I think our medical knowledge is a great thing and saves lives. However, we need to be careful not to abuse these substances.
Everytime we have a cold we dont need to go to the doctor and get a pill. God designed our bodies to fight bacteria off, and sometimes we need to let that happen naturally. (For example, immediately taking a fever reducer when you have a fever can actually be worse for you, because God made out bodies to get fevers when we get really sick, so we can kill bacteria. Although it's great to have them in case we really do need them.)
We need to follow the directions we are given by the pharmacist or it can have a bad effect on your body and also weaken your immune system. The best thing we can do is eat foods with alot of vitamins to prevent getting sick. However, God gave people medical knowledge and put things on this earth to help us. I think we should use them...yet use them responsibly. :D

I knowsome Christians are against meds because "God heals us". However, I have a heard a picture painted like this before: A man in a sinking boat cries out for God to save him. So God sends a man with a boat. The man in the boat approaches and tries to help the man who is sinking. The sinking man replies "I dont need you to save me. God will save me." God can use others to help us, we need to recognise that.
We need to realize that yes God can heal us miraculously, but he can also use doctors and pharmacists to heal us too. That's how I feel on the subject :)

This is a very sensitive subject and I think everyone that replied on this post is right. I don't think it can't be a clear and cut deal on this subject, each individual will have to make a choice what is best for oneself.

I did have a friend that died because of medicine prescription, and when my daughter was a baby, I know the doctors have over medicated her, so I did stopped it, with the grace of God, I knew my daughter, and knew something was wrong.

Yet I have my granddaughter and grandson here, alive and well, because of medicine. I almost losted both of them, and I am not just thankful for medicine but I know the Lord had HIS hands over them.

May God continue to bless each one you, Trish :friends:

I am here to agree with what Coconut said. I was one of those Professional women that worked 8 to 12 hours a day and then stopped off for fast food on the way home. I had no children at home to cook for, and my husband was a fire fighter.. so many times I ate alone with our cat. Pizza, McDonalds, Dunkin donuts, whatever was easy. And when I did cook, I cooked a lot of french cuisine, or red meat, ribs, all the stuff that tasted fabulous, but was poison to my body. I paid dearly for it and nearly lost my life.

Nowadays, I take the necessary meds but shun Flu Shots, and other unnessary medical suggestions.. When I took a major spill onto the pavement a few weeks back, I did go to ER to make sure nothing in this old Medicaid body was fractured and to get a tetanus shot. I mean we live in the hills out here and possums and armadillos pee on that pavement.

But most importantly.. I eat differently than before... I eat whole grains, and lean fish, and meats and lots of veggies... not so much the canned overprocessed stuff, but cooked from fresh or raw veggies. And I grow my own Organically when I can. And I freeze lots of what I grow as well.

Most folks don't think I look nearly as old as I am and usually guess my age to be lots younger.. (and you can check my photo album and form your own opinion.) and that really spurs me on to keep on doing what I am. Walking a minimum of 1½ miles every day, rain or shine. And doing a bit of weight training doesn't hurt neither.

I am still a bit overweight, but working on that as well... and losing excess weight consistently. It will take awhile, but then it didn't get on there overnight either.

Pharmaceuticals have a place in our world, and Praise God for the folks that formulate them.... but so does eating right and taking care of our own bodies as God intended us to.
