(No fancy cups or chairs "for God' at His water cooler either...only a simple invitation to come drink)
One lone Scarlet Woman goes to the well during the hottest point of the day to avoid the wagging tongues of her fellow townspeople. Most other people were resting at this time; nobody in his or her right mind is out in the noonday sun. The woman knows this and seizes the opportunity to get water for her home without being troubled...
Jews didn't normally travel on a Samaritan road, but Jesus chose to walk this way today...coincidence, no.
I think we miss the significance of the story...and the glory...
of how God set the stage of this one woman's life...(yes even the power in the wagging tongues that drove her to the well at noonday) and delivered His whole 'gospel' message in one 'chance' meeting by a well in a field...
(and you thought God only held meetings at your church)
Jesus sufficiently and completely provides the answer to every
question of Spiritual importance in this one story.
What is the gift of God?
Who is it for?
How do we get it?
Then where should we worship?
John 4:10 Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God..."
"But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."
