Then he showed me another vision. I saw the Lord standing beside a wall that had been built using a plumb line. He was using a plumb line to see if it was still straight. Amos 7:7 NLT

Straight walls need a solid foundation to stay upright, but walls built on solid foundations are not always straight. Plumb lines—a weight tied to a string that uses gravity to make sure walls are structurally sound—can reveal whether the wall has tilted since being built. A wall that leans will eventually fall.

Amos’s vision in today’s verse shows God checking on the people of Israel. Were they still standing as straight and tall as the foundation on which they were built? What God found with His plumb line was a wall destined to crumble: “The pagan shrines of your ancestors will be ruined, and the temples of Israel will be destroyed; I will bring the dynasty of King Jeroboam to a sudden end” (Amos 7:9).

When the wall has fallen, God can rebuild it (see Amos 9:11).

Our lives in Christ are built on a solid foundation, but are we living upright for Him? Ask Him to test your life and your heart with His plumb line. If your life leans toward the things of this world, allow God to rebuild it for you lest it crumble when a strong wind comes along.

Prayer: Lord, repair my life to be as solid as the foundation You laid on the cross.
