Power of the Tongue
Proverbs 18:21
The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Words have the power to motivate or destroy, energize or deflate, inspire or create despair. Many successful executives can remember the time their father failed to give affirmation to them as a child. The result was either over achievement to prove their worth, or under achievement to prove he was right.

Many a wife has lost her ability to love because of a critical husband. Many a husband has left a marriage because of words of disrespect and ungratefulness. Stories abound regarding the power of words. There are just as many stories of those who have been encouraged, challenged, and comforted with words that made a difference in their lives.

Jesus knew the power of words. He used parables to convey His principles of the Kingdom of God. He used words of forgiveness and mercy. He used words to challenge. He used words to inspire His disciples to miraculous faith.

Do your words give life? Do they inspire and challenge others to greatness? Who does God want you to encourage through your words today? Affirm someone close to you today.

James 4:11

Don’t speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters. If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging God’s law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you.

Ephesians 4:11-13

11 Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

Although the above may not be fully in the same subject matter, I think it relates. For one thing, to simplify what we should or should not say, one must ask themselves: Would Jesus say this? How would Christ respond?

These questions should help us think twice before we speak. It all comes down to submitting to the Spirit to transform us into the likeness of Christ.

This message is so true.

Many of us probably don't even realize that we are putting ourselves or others down at time. What we speak is so powerful, we could curse someone and not even know about it.

We should be more mindful in what we say.

Thank you for the message LLJ. And thank you for the additional scriptures Chad.

Blessings,
monkeys

yes!

yes i agree. God gives us tongues to speak because we humans have dominion mandates. just be careful of what comes out from our mouths.. because if we say bad things Satan can easily say "amen" to them.

God bless =)

Jesus said "...you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

I work in an environment surrounded by half truths. As a christian I find myself having to lie to customers, to save my boss and having to lie to other employees about when their check will be ready.

This past month I've been receiving conviction concerning my words. Its very easy to fall into gossip when it is camouflage as concern. Last week my memory verse was "

Proverbs 18:21
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit.

For the word to be effective in our lives we must apply it. I thought about my job and how unhappy I was having to mislead people. It was not an everyday thing but I just don't like it, saying " I don't know " when I really do.

This morning I had to make one of those " I'm sorry " calls, with great anxiety, I just prayed for God to choose my words. I wanted to make a stand, for Truth...
So I did, I told the customer the truth about the situation, I really didn't care how the company looked, for we were at fault. She was upset but her gratitude towards my honesty surpassed her anger. The conversation ended with a laugh.
I mean I expected worst, she took the day off to meet with us, and we really had no excuse in not meeting with her, seeing that it was schedule a month now.

So the truth did set me free.....lol

I was going to put this in a new thread, but as I went back I saw this post and decided to copy and paste it right here.....

Great Post....God has been talking to me about words, and I'm attending a youth rally next Friday and to my surprise the title is called " Words "

God bless everyone today...

Again great post.

"Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable to you, O Lord my strenth, and my redeemer" Psalm 19:14

I have this verse placed in front of my computer, to remind me of how my words affect others.
