Pray in Faith
If you're gonna take the time to pray, then you might as well pray in faith! Don't you agree? In Hebrews 11:6 we read, "Without faith it is impossible to please God, for he who comes to Him must believe that He is, and that He is the rewarder of those who seek Him." Ya just gotta believe. Maybe you're like the poor fellow who had the epileptic son. When Jesus asked him if he believed that Jesus could heal his son, the guy replied in all honesty, "I believe, but help me overcome my unbelief." So just how do we overcome our unbelief? How can we improve on the littleness of our faith? Even Peter and the Disciples were chastised by Jesus for their puny faith. So how about us? James, the brother of Jesus, gives us this scathing rebuke, "Ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord."
Ouch, that hurts! So what do I do now? "Pray, believing", as Jesus said. Increase your faith by consuming God's Word. Paul proclaimed in Romans 10, "So then, faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ." As we immerse ourselves in God's Holy Word, our faith and trust in Him begins to grow. We learn to believe what we know and have been taught rather than what we see and hear. Again and again Jesus is quoted in the Gospels saying, "Your faith has made you well", or "Your faith has saved you." Paul once prayed for a man to be healed because, "He saw that the man had the faith to be healed." And it was Peter and John, after healing a man, who said to the amazed crowd, "On the basis of faith in His Name, it is the Name of Jesus which has strengthened this man... and the faith which comes through Him gives him this perfect health." Go ahead, ask, seek, and knock. Pray to God in faith. Stand in prayer, believing. But by all means, pray. God be with you all...
