I haven't been online for the past several days due to illness. I felt as though I was dying, but it was an abscessed tooth. Now I realize why this happened. While waiting to see the dentist during my follow-up visit yesterday, I overheard a conversation that required spiritual intervention.
The dental assistant was contemplating suicide due to the tragic death of her only child, a 19 year-old son who was killed in an automobile accident by a drunk driver. I heard a patient trying to convince her not to "do it." I immediately knew that they were talking about suicide and interjected by telling her that her son was more alive than she. The patient said, "Amen," thanked me, said she had to leave, and asked if I would continue to talk to the assistant.
I asked if her son had accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and she told me that he had shortly prior to his death. That was all I needed to hear. I had a lengthy conversation with her until I had to see the dentist. Another employee approached me and told me that she had overheard our conversation. She thanked me for talking to her co-worker and asked what church I attended. After seeing the dentist I continued to speak with the grieving mother. We exchanged phone numbers and she told me that I had convinced her to continue to live and that she now felt better. She was smiling and we hugged. I told her to call me if she ever thinks of suicide again, or just to talk. She promised she would. I'm going to call her tomorrow just as reinforcement.
I have another dental appointment on Monday. I know the power of prayer, and would appreciate as many of your prayers as possible. I also pray that God will continue to give me words of comfort and encouragement for her. This lady did not own a Bible prior to her son's death, and has just recently accepted Jesus. Please pray for Tammy. Thank you, and God bless.
I'm on pain medicine and have to lie down, but I wanted to come to TalkJesus long enough to ask for your prayers for Tammy.
