Praying, Giving and Receiving - a special series for Lent on Matthew's Gospel, written by Peter Graystone
Matthew 5:4
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Jesus doesn't say, 'You will be OK if you are bereaved because you will get over it.' Rather he says that at moments of deep distress it is possible to feel the closeness of God, who was also made desolate with grief at the death of his Son Jesus, in ways that other people could never realise.
Some people who have gone through bereavement speak of God's profound comfort and consolation, made real in the love and support of Christian friends. It is their witness which allows us to trust this saying.
Pray today for those who mourn a loss of any kind, that they may know love and support, and God's presence with them.
